Tricycle also known as rickshaws are ubiquitous and popular. Having been introduced in Nigeria by the then Lagos State military adminstor Buba Marwa, it has come to be known as Keke Marwa. A term that has come to stay! But one thing about this mode of transportation is lack of comfort, sanity and above all exposure to elements. Having this in mind, an indigenous company in Nnewi, Anambra State is posed to change the narrative of how a Keke should be by introducing modern version.

Though, this is not the first time this has been done, Imo State in a bid to bring sanity to the beautiful city of Owerri introduced a car like tricycle but an imported version and the product wasn't that reliable sue to paucity of finance and spare parts until the present Government banned it citing risks and aesthetics.

Looks like a new model of Keke Napep will be rolling out soon but this version will be more conducive and would give a very enjoyable ride. This can be called the sophisticated version of Keke Napep.

The fully airconditioned Keke Napep looks like a mini car, much different from the regular tricycle you know which can be spotted in almost every part of Nigeria.

A lady was picture test driving the gold colour, a colour that is definitely different from the usual yellow or green Keke Napep are known to have.

With this innovation, it is believed that the state can key into this after following the footsteps of he sister state Imo in banning Okada (motorcycles) as a means of transportation. In line with the motives of Anambra State government to be a modern state, the project would be accepted .

You have just asked the most important question. What is this innovation driving at? Luxury or affordability and comfort?

Public Transport is meant to be a mass-mover of people.

While other countries are focusing on making transportation more sustainable by introducing trams, clean vehicles and electric buses, look what my dear country Nigeria is doing.

This doesn’t make sense, clueless government!
