Come on people, help!
wink
Re: Volvo Mechanic / Service Center by EEL: 9:26pm On Oct 26, 2010
It all depends on the service to be done. Most of the service centers don't really do much and they do come up with crazy bills. The most important thing is getting the right spare parts when it needs to be reduced.
Re: Volvo Mechanic / Service Center by infolpf: 11:35pm On Oct 26, 2010
Thanks for the response.
Parts are actually not a problem. I have a small stash of parts for just about every maintenance need. What I would like is a service center that has competent mechanics. You know, people who know the engine, not the trial and error specialists? That way I can use them for regular maintenance while hoping nothing major comes up.

SO any recommendations would help, then I can go check them out.
Re: Volvo Mechanic / Service Center by infolpf: 11:40pm On Oct 26, 2010
The diagnostic tools are great, but even after the codes have been read, someone still has to be able to properly fix the problem.
It is THAT person I am looking for.

One of my clients once tried Doyin Motors but he ran back to me. (He refused to disclose the reason).
You may try them out. But you may send the codes to our DL, we will be glad to help you out.

EEL do you just do diagnostics or do you repair vehicles as well? I have a blown head gasket on a 2.7t audi a6 - would you be able to sort that out?

@ dabigwalls: So Sorry!!, just saw your post - Awfully Late at that.
@ Dee247: Motormark Service Center is at Conoil Mega Station, Lagos-Ibadan Express way, Alausa Ikeja. (Its after Total Station when coming from Secretariat side along the Express)
Well, my email address is pshonubi at gmail****com. feel free to send me email if you have any other questions, i'm no expert but i have learned a lot about my cars to be really comfortable around them.
I have an S80, an 4.4i X5 and a 1982 230e benz.
The Volvo still offers the most comfortable driving experience, it's more of a pleasure ride, the X5 is a beast, not as comfy but more capable on the road. Ah, the Benz....well....
Now one thing with the s80 is that it's got a lot of electronics in it and when something goes wrong (and trust me something will) do not patch it up. Replacement parts are not that expensive. Love your car and she'll love you back.
There are parts i buy from Ladipo and there are some i don't compromise with so i buy from the U.S (turns out a lot of the time, the U.S parts are cheaper! not to talk of the fact that you get the original replacements) Over time i have dealt with a lot of spare part dealers and i have been able to identify one or two that are trustworthy - i have since stayed with them. (Original Volvo parts: Ik - 08033056790)
Of course it'll do you a lot of good to have a number of resources at your disposal. (1. Internet: most valuable, 2. Alldata diy account: www.alldatadiy.com, 3. OBD2 Scanner)
If you have an S80 and have the scanned codes, i could easily help you look it up.

@dabigwalls: Christmas lights on the dashboard isn't necessarily bad, it could be a result of a single replaceable component, and it could be otherwise (bad). What you should do is scan the car. If you can, do a complete scan (engine, transmission, ABS...all the works) you can find technicians with elaborate scanners, pay them 3k or 5k i think have them use their scanner do a complete scan of the car and give you print out the results. It'll be a good place to start.
Like i tell people who care to listen, just because a car is common doesn't make it a good car. People will talk about getting reliable mechanics and all, i'll tell you this the technology you'll find in a 2000 volvo s80 is far ahead of what you'll find in most "common cars. Most of our mechanics will give a bad label to things they don't understand (they don't understand it - means it bad!) I'm shocked that up till now, you'll still find car owners that'll allow mechanics yank off the thermostat in their cars! Visit the Car talk section of Nairaland often, you'll get good resources there too (whatever car you get).
There's so much to talk about....in time i guess.
Bottom line, i LOVE the volvo, Engine is reliable, Transmission is good. things i spend money on the most are suspension parts: Control arm bushings, tie rod ends etc.
gotta run.
Cheers

I think its high time we create a forum for Volvo users with expert advice on any issues. I will nominate Kamikazee to be a moderator cos i just bought the S80 and that car is a bomb.

So, i want to have a good maintenance culture about the car for it to last longer.

i honestly fink a forum for the Volvo owners will be good. I have spent alot of money trying to fix my Volvo S60 2005 2.5T i bought in 2009. The car was da Bomb for two years without issues, until in 2011 i discovered it needed a specialized volvo mechanic, for which i had none at the phc area, dat was how trial and error mechanics finished the living day-light out of the car. bought i honestly cant let it go still. it still caresses my soul wif the power and agility of a newborn. am now in lagos and still hunting for good parts, good mechanics and good forums. thanks to Kamikazee0 for the good work so far.

Ok, right now the car stops when idle, jst like slowing down in traffic and the engine dies. then series of re-kicking episodes, before it starts again and runs till i ve to slow down and it stops. the mechanics said'plugs" i gave them money for that, but it didnt solove it, now they say some "nozzles" are not functioning well. I have a Lovely S 70, solid strong car, people find it funny that a woman would have one but I got tired of soft, easily crashed cars.
One issue sha, it doesnt pick on time when i stop or slow down, most times I have to switch off and switch on, Mechanics have used me to do party on that one issue, every other thing is fine and sound.
Anyone with a similar issue?
When it picks sha, it fires so well, all the 5 cylinders are alive then.

I think you need to do the necessary diagnosis to confirm what is really wrong with the car.

Not sure if this guys still around, but i haven't been to see him for some years now,he actually was employed with RT Briscoe and sent on a few courses in Sweden.

His names is Jasper and his workshop was on the Badagry express just around satellite town, however, like i said haven't checked him for a few years now. But you can give it a try.

If its not too much tell us how u got on.

Wonder if anybody has had any experience with a Volvo XC90 4x4, how reliable, rugged, and possible mtce problems in Nigeria

Finally i still think a Volvo is the safest car on the road in a smash, roll over and most likely not on the must have list of Naija car jackers, so Aisha2 if i had a wife in Nigeria she would be driving a Volvo 4sure.

Thanks Guys, I was speaking with a cab driver who was taking me to the airport as soon as he heard he said "fuel Pump" change it, turns out it was simply a blocked fuel filter, less than 2k solved a problem i had spent so much on.
Abuja Mechanics sha, God dey watch them with 3d glasses
Re: Volvo Mechanic / Service Center by lachumy: 9:23am On Jan 03, 2014
@ Aisha2 i am glad you finally got it all solved and rectified.
I have an s80 2002 with same kind of issue, though i ve not had time to check the issue out well, but with your post, i believe it will take me to a better end without having being ripped off by same local technicians that are not always satisfied with no matter the amount paid.
Also, was it the fuel pump that you changed or the fuel filter?

Your response will be over appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed in one way or another.....lets keep the spirit! grin

fm7070: volvo parts are plentifully cheap at Ladipo, Mushin Lagos.
Ladipo via Daleko end, and they hardly have new parts saying ppl don't buy it. But there is available all volvo parts from oldies to morden. And volvo specialized mechanics are all there. They do wait an get jobs fast fast.

♍γ̲̣̣̥ Experience!?
I use a ♍γ̲̣̣̥ 2000 V40 1.8gdi
The car will just go off when you slow down but when on speed it runs fine.
Then ♍γ̲̣̣̥ mech said it simple so they increased the RPM, now the raves above 1000RPM. This practicaly means the car will start comsuming so much fuel.
When I complain he said plugs, I said I will not buy untill you av put new plugs and the problem stops so he find plugs from working vehicles to test and came up with "ahha it is no plugs oo"
He also start cross checking coils and said it not coils. (Try n Error)
He the suggested we service injector nossles (dat would av cost me 3k)
I told him to hold on then I took the car for scan/diagnosis and guess what?
It all caused by just 1 fuel Pump realy, which I bought for #500 and fixed it myself and Problem Solved.

I forget to say, while the rave was high and I was driving the car like dat afta a while it started raving on its own intermitently from 1k-3kRPM and back at intervals.

When I removed bad pump relay and fix another one it worked well for almost a month and it started raving by itself intermitently again but at a low RPM since idle is just at 500RPM normally so it just go to 1k slightly.

That's the reason I am looking for brand new relay new to permanently solve problem.

As it is rightly said earlie "if you love ur Volvo it will love u back"
And if you work on your car with your very good mechanic you may not spend as much as you will spend when you don't care what they do and what they don't do to ur car.

Hi all,

I have been looking for a reliable Volvo service center, but haven't found one. But going through all these responses puts my mind at rest.

I have a 1999 Volvo S80, and just as other users have remarked, it's 'the bomb'. It's my first car though, and it's surely a pleasure to ride. I haven't had major issues with, except for when I made the mistake of allowing one of these local mechanics to start poking his dirty hands in every conner of the front half, looking for what isn't lost.

Presently, there's this clunking sound I get whenever I run over rough roads, bumps or potholes. Initially, I was told it was the shock-absorber pad, which I replaced, but the sound is still there. It seems to be coming from the driver's side in front.

I've read tons and tons of stuff online, and it seems everyone is pointing to the sway bar end links and probably bushings. I just want to know whether someone else has had the same experience, and what was done to solve the problem.

Thanks y'all.
