This one has nothing to do with Boeing but everything to do with the ineptitude of the pilot.

You don’t get “sink rate” and “flights low” warning if you’re aligned with the runway. Even during instrument landing, you should be able to see the runway from 500 ft or you abort the landing.

There are pilots out there that are just crazy or stupid. For how long did they hear the warnings and still remained insistent on crashing. Even if they had reacted properly and engaged full power to climb out they would not have had sufficient time for the engines to react and provide thrust. I just wonder why pilots never react to system warnings in very many crashes.

They just continued carelessly. They were lucky that the contact surface was water. The story will have been different. If they thought they were on course ILS will have guided them in. But flying visual, totally blind and trying to land with system warnings is suicide.

If ILS is working the autopilot can touch the plane down on the threshold without problems and in zero visibility but you need to have ILS working, you need to have a competent pilot on board and you need to have the aircraft operating properly. If these three factors ae not in play for heavens sake abort the landing and head for the next port. Safe is always better than sorry.

Planes can land with ILS approach without any need for visuals but ILS feather isn't always 100% aligned to the runway and this is the reason why it is actually mandatory to have a visual confirmation of the runway before touching down. Even with the lowest visibility, it is important to have a visual confirmation of the runway from 500-300 ft. Otherwise, landing is like playing russian roulette with the lives of everyone just like the pilots in this video did.
