As the trial of leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND,Mr.Henry Okah continues today, a shocking twist emerged as he named the Minister for Niger Delta, Mr. Godday Orubebe to the purchase of guns and ammunition for the militant group.

Okah told the South African Court that the invoice under exhibit was sent to him in South Africa by Mr. Orubebe. Orubebe is a close ally and confidant of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said the Nigerian Government through Orubebe requested for the quote for the guns and requested a second quote from the South African Government.

Okah’s naming of Orubebe was based on questioning arising from entries in his diary.

According to his diary: ‘We met with Orubebe, jonathan's desire to run for President. They require me to co-operate with so-called militants,'

Okah who denied the alleged overtures to help buy guns and ammunitions, denied his involvement in the October 1 bombing that killed about twelve people.


He said “I am a sympathizer and for me that is where it ends.”

Prosecutors insist that bail for Okah may lead to the destruction of exhibits, elimination of witnesses and the possibility of the suspect jumping bail. The prosecutors also said Henry Okah and Gbomo Jomo are the same.
