Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was at his humility game on Friday as he insisted on praying outside the Ilorin Central Mosque as part of what seems a conscious attempt by the Governor to associate with the masses and demystify the invincibility and grandeur often associated with public office.

The Governor, who arrived the venue in company of his usually light entourage of few aides, opted to sit at the corridor of the sprawling mosque with the Secretary to the State Government Prof Mamman Sabah Jibril and other aides, even though he arrived the mosque very early. The Governor arrived at about 2:02p.m as the Friday sermon was just starting. The prayer is at 2:30p.m.

Government House insiders said AbdulRazaq had long given a standing instruction to his aides to never disrupt public events or build wall of invincibility around him because “he had been elected by the people to serve, and not to become another Lord of the Manor.”

“He believes things should be done differently if we must achieve different results and move the society forward. He believes we must stop carrying on as if we are better than other members of the society, especially the voters,” according to the source.

Besides, the Governor had long maintained that he is a private citizen each time he attends a religious event.

AbdulRazaq set a new record in Kwara State during the last Eid-el-Fitr arriving the mosque as early as 9a.m. — the first time in many years for an incumbent to arrive the gathering so early without discomforting the faithful with their usually large entourage, elaborate security arrangements and fanfares.

I was opportuned to witness same sceneriao some days to the gov election. He opted to stay outside under the tent at the immediate row infront of me with a very ltle security details.....
I laughed it out and thought it was the usual gimmick politicians employ during election period..
But no, seem i was wrong.
