There is absolutely no reason why the criminal who imported these bombs shouldn't be apprehended.
On the Bill of Lading, the name of the consignee will be boldly written, and if no name is there, the notify party's name i.e the bank that processed the Form M name will be written. The official can start their investigation from the bank that processed the Form M and the risk assessment report RAR.

Finally, the agent responsible for the clearing of course knows the contact person that gave him the Bill of lading and other documents. Its the simplest investigation that can be carried out.

Even if the culprits are at large, at least they can be identified and soon they will be caught.

I dont expect the security agents to waste time on this one at all.

Wrong. Sensitive information like this needs to be very carefully managed while investigations are on-going. In fact, this news should never have been broadcast the way it has. In organized societies, the whole process would have been carefully managed and orchtestrated.
We may now never know the true identities of the sponsors of this act.

I strongly suspect that Lagos has been spared a shock attack by those who have had their influence in the army cut down.

The trick is, get the tools in (rockets, rockets launchers, explosives etc), then infiltrate the men in as civilians, beggars, mai guards, market men etc. When everything is in place, launch an surprise attacks on one or more military barracks to capture them and get more loyalist tropps and heavy equipment.
With Lagos down, the whole SW would have been easy pickings.

As the Federal Government  moves to unravel the mystery behind the importation of 13 containers laden with high caliber ammunition, it has emerged that the consignment had been at Lagos ports since July 10, this year.



MV Everest belonging to CMA Shipping Company berthed with the containers and sailed out of the country on July 15, according to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) which explained yesterday that it blocked the importer’s attempt to clear the containers due to “observed irregularities in the import documents.”

And the Federal Government said on Wednesday it will not jump to conclusion as high level security apparatus has been deployed to investigate the development, Owei Azazi, National Security Adviser, who inspected the containers alongside Oluseyi Petinrin, an Air Marshal and Chief of Air Staff, at Apapa Port said.

Alarmed by the calibre of weapons in the intercepted containers, the Goodluck/Sambo campaign organization Wednesday charged security operatives to expose all those connected with the importation.

“At this point, the only thing we can say is that we have some armaments that were discovered at the port by the security agencies. We do not want to make any conclusion about what caliber of ammunition, where they are going or where they are coming from. We need a lot of verification and at the end of the day Nigerians will know what the issue is all about, let us not jump into conclusion.

Commending the security agencies for intercepting the containers, Goodluck/Sambo campaign organization said “by this interception, the security services have saved Nigerians from mortal danger. It is obvious that the evil minds behind the importation of these arms have a sinister agenda. They must be exposed and brought to book.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Abdullahi , said in Abuja on Wednesday that the containers had been under security surveillance for some time and were subject of a joint inspection by the Customs, State Security Service and Police.

“Our system is configured to block suspicious importations of this nature. For instance, this particular importation had no Form ‘M’ and Risk Assessment Report (RAR). The importer and exporter had no address on the system, and we had reasons to believe that the importer’s name given in the import documents is fictitious”, Abdullahi stated.

However, as security agencies move to unravel the identity of the consignees, a pall of controversy is being thrown on the intercepted arms with the contention by some maritime operators that the ammunitions were on transit to The Gambia.

But Wale Adeniyi, assistant comptroller of Customs and spokesman of the NCS, dismissed the suggestion. “I am not sure the whole of Gambia’s armed forces will use up to half of the ammunition,” he told BusinessDay, insisting that if the consignment was on transit, the country of final destination would have made effort to assess the containers since July 10 when they have been in the custody of the Customs.

According to the Customs boss, Nhava Sheva, otherwise known as Jawaharial Nehru Port, considered as the busiest port in India, was the vessel’s last port of call before it berthed in Nigeria. The vessel sailed out of Nigeria on 15th July 2010, this year after discharging 754 packages of glass wool and stones which was declared as contents of the 13 containers on the ship’s manifest.

Artillery rockets like those often used by insurgents in Afghanistan filled the 13 containers intercepted by security agents at the port.

Officials allowed journalists on Wednesday to see the 107 mm rockets, rifle rounds, grenades, explosives, mortars and possibly rocket launchers. However, journalists visiting the holding yard Wednesday just inside of the port’s main gate did not see those weapons.

I saw MEND's exoneration,Dokpesi's arrest and IBB/northerners wrongful accusation as political,how is it wrong?Now that Henry Okah and some Igbos and south-south people are the ones being tried,has the north not been vindicated?Or can you give me the name of one northerner standing trial for the bombings?

Flawed reasoning. So you presume those arrested so far are the masterminds behind the attack? Wrong! They are merely  foot soldiers in the battle of attrition, low level elements doing the bidding of their desperate paymasters (IBB).

We may eventually find out who the main sponsors are. Or maybe not. Either way,  complicity of desperate elements from the north cannot be ruled out just yet.
