According to the latest rankings of Universities in the World recently released by Times Higher Education, Covenant University, a private Christian University located in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria has been ranked as West Africa’s best University and ultimately coming tops as Nigeria’s best University.

Covenant University is describe on its website as “a growing, dynamic vision-birthed, vision driven University, founded on a Christian mission ethos and committed to pioneering excellence at the cutting edge of learning. We are driven by the compelling vision of raising a new generation of Leaders for the African Continent on the platform of a Holistic, Human Development and integrated learning curriculum, in order to raise Total Men who will go out to develop their world. Our Core-Values of Spirituality, Possibility Mentality, Capacity Building, Integrity, Responsibility, Diligence and Sacrifice are what defines our commitment to excellence.”


Founded in February 2002 by Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church, the University has since 2016 been recording landmark achievements. Notable among these are the following: entering the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking (WUR) for as the Best West African University and the 6th African University; entering the THE Subject Rankings in Business & Economics in the 501+ range among universities globally; entering the same Rankings in Engineering & Technology in the 501-600 range globally as the only Nigerian Institution; ranked as #151 Globally in THE Emerging Economies Ranking. And most recently, ranked 301+ in the inaugural THE Impact Ranking for 2019. Covenant won a African Development Bank Center of Excellence in ICT slot, and became one of the World Bank Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE-Impact) host Institutions with the Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication (ACE-ApIC) and most recently being recognized by the Times higher Education, World Universities Ranking as the best university in West Africa and Nigeria for 2019.

I used to, until I visited the school several times during my brother's years of study there. Those buildings are falling apart less than 10years after they were built. Compare that with UI or Unilag where their buildings (the old ones o) look set to stand for another 100 years

Some sadist won't be happy about this, they will be shouting that the school is runned with tithes and offerings, at least the tithes and offerings are really doing what they are meant to do and the results are great , i will be happy to contribute to a successful things in my life.

As far as I'm concerned, they are the best in Nigeria.

No wonder the school is growing great.

I like Bishop Oyedepo as a person though and what He stand for...
But I get confused alot by what I like about him.
I once told a fellow that I contributed N20 to the building and development of CU,and He said if it's Because of my N20 I started having some sense of entitlement that He will refund me.
I told him,"you can't afford it,not just you but Oyedepo himself can't afford it"....
A primary school pikin wey contribute N20 to donate as far back as 1996...
.....the truth is Winners Chapel can afford to run these schools,covenant and Landmark on 100% scholarship...let it be the school for the genius among us...I will contribute a million naira now or more for it to be school that model the best of the best of the next generation...
I still can't see why I contributed N20 and a poor guy like my dad couldn't send his wards to that institution...
My opinion....but I actually feel robbed.

U can be sure one the reasons why you are reading all this about covenant uni is that high fees.

Higher education funding is not beans and never for the faint hearted. Most first grade university education is not cheap anywhere in the world. If it's cheap? Somebody somewhere is paying u can be sure. Yes there should be scholarship for high performing and indigent church members. But never low fees or cheap education. If the fees are very affordable and the school becomes self financially. unsustainable. The same church members will soon start complaining over the burden of contributing to sustain CU.

The difference between CU n ur normal
secular university in nijja is that CU generates the money internally and shrewdly accounts n reinvests it in the school according to their vision, while secular collects same form Govt and squanders it dubiously without any vision n commitment.

Oyedepo n winners takes full responsibility for CU, while even ur president is nonchalant and laccadesical over the warfare of the people, let alone the secular university administrators.


Remember the saying that the Goat owned by the whole village will soon die of malnutrition n neglect. While the one owned by a single poor villager survives.
My Rev in Anglican church and lecturer in Anglican Univ has all his children schooling in CU. Why didn't he send them to Ajayi Crowther Univ Oyo? The answer is simple while one is affordable, the other is expensive but got all the standard n quality.
