Anambra Earmarks N6bn For Cargo Airport by Montracine: 5:32pm On Sep 26, 2019
The Anambra State Government has earmarked N6 billion for the construction of the Anambra State International Cargo Airport at Umueri, near Awka, the state capital.

Governor Willie Obiano made the disclosure at the presentation of the state 2020 budget to the state’s assembly on Thursday in Awka.

He announced that a total of N22.2 billion was estimated for the construction of roads and bridges, while N6 .98 billion was set aside for implementation of strategic initiatives in the health sector.

Mr Obiano, who later hosted stakeholders at the Government Lodge in Amawbia, near Awka, said his administration decided to invest in the airport to actualise the promise he made during 2017 governorship campaign.

The governor said constructing an international airport in the state would boost economic development and increase the income base of the state.

He said critics of his administration would be shocked at the pace of work at the airport’s site after the rainy season.

Mr Obiano, who also spoke extensively on what his administration was doing in the health sector, urged residents of the state to embrace the state’s health insurance scheme.

“A lot of testimonies are being given on the state health insurance scheme, due to the effective nature of the scheme.

“I am appealing to the people of Anambra State and to non-natives residing in our state, to register with the scheme because of the immense benefits of the scheme,’’ he said.

How will proliferation of airports help the south east. What Igbos need are railways to help the large volume of trade within our land. Like Onitsha to Owerri to Aba and Onistsa to abakaleke. Too many airports will lead to underutilization and waste.

The South East Avaition business is under uitlised , if you know how difficult it is to find flight to the east during yuletide then you would realise that this is a big opportunity.

The South East should make sure every state in the Zone has an international Cargo Airport for quick import and evacuation of exports . The south east should also make sure they go int partnership with Air Peace , we dont need any National Carrier, the Air Peace will go into Partnership with each state to povide aviation services on demand and to have the airports in the east designated for both local and international flights.

This will create thousands of Jobs direct and indirect , boost the tourism business in the east and open up the east

Lol do know what a failed state is? Your state Ebonyi where there are more gala hawkers than sane people, what do you call such a state.

Ebonyi state has highest out of school children, is that not a failed state.

Ebonyi people export hawkers all over Nigeria, is that not a failed state?

Ebonyi people are considered 3rd class igbos by the igbos

Ebonyi people are cursed people.

There are more ebonyi people living in Anambra than ebonyi people living in ebonyi. Lol

Very very stupid idea and waste of funds. There are already cargo airports everywhere and instead of focusing on what will give the state/region a huge economic boost (world class INT”L AIRPORT) they are still behaving like marginalized people with projects they can loot from...

Nonsense

I dont care whether pace of work has increased or not but one thing is certain Obiano must complete that ICC and bring the airport up to an appreciable level.

For the benefit of doubt, Dubai: Aviation and tourism related activities will contribute $53.1 billion (Dh195 billion) or 37.5 per cent toDubai's GDP in 2020 and support over 754,500 jobs, according to Latest Oxford Economics Report
