The former Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has taken time out to appreciate teachers on the occasion of World Teachers' Day.
In a message on his official twitter handle on Saturday, October 5, Saraki said teachers are the next most important influence in life after the creator and parents.
He described teachers as great builders and real mentors, saying they mould great leaders and guide the top professionals.
Saraki remembered his French teacher in Kings College, who according to him, truly cared about her students and was so passionate about their success in life. He said she was someone who wanted to do more for her students, not just to impart knowledge.
World Teachers' Day is celebrated on October 5 every year. The United Nations had in 1994 declared October 5 of every year as World Teachers Day (WTD) or International Teachers Day. The aim is to acknowledge the significant role of those in profession of teaching worldwide.

It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of UNESCO's 1966 recommendation concerning the status of teachers.

The best time your celebrating the teachers was when you were directly and indirectly the Governor of Kwara State for 16years and legislator for 8years. If saraki had used those times actively paying their salaries and allowances at the right time, pass bills that give them special treatment and good working condition, this celebration would be respected and honored

The teaching profession is one of the most undervalued professions out there and it's all because of people like him.

Scammer trying to stage a comeback with teachers, forming humility, using them to campaign. You owed some teachers over 33months salary, you owed some for over a year, some over 6 months, you cut their salaries anyhow, your teachers were some of the least paid in the nation in their respective levels, you used to pay pensioners 2000 Naira as pension which wasn't even stable. I know a former director who became a director after years of teaching, was transparent and hard working, this man retired and was driving taxi around since you refused to pay their gratuity and pension. They dragged you to court since 2008 and court did nothing, thanks to your mighty power and pocketing of judges, These pensioners used to come to radio to appeal to you but you did nothing, they suffered and died from illnesses since they couldn't afford hospital bills,i used to cry for these pensioners whenever I see them around government house begging you for their pension and gratuity, hardworking educationists looked like beggars, I actually participated in voting you out because of pensioners, one of them used to come to my shop to eat, begging me to buy him food, a very educated man faa. Any teacher that boldly supports an opposition party, you would transfer him to Ganagagi or another village very far from his abode. You used to more than double promote unqualified wives and girlfriends of prominent party members that are into teaching and place them ahead of hardworking and more qualified teachers that have been there before them. You did nothing to better the lives of teachers, offices and classrooms teachers are meant to be looked like junkyards and some teachers don't even have office or staff room and have to teach students under trees. Dan Sarafa appealed to you several times on radio to help in places like Kehinde,Gaa Duroyi, Bode Saadu,Opolo and many other towns and villages and many places in Ilorin but you ignored, the shaking walls of classes and offices in Amoyo secondary school I visited were very dangerous to place ones back on as they can fall and kill you at any time but students and teachers risked their lives teaching and learning there while your kids were learning under ac. Mr Saraki, your past isn't even far, it's near and very fresh in the minds of people, you can't deceive people anymore, not even your 1500 alfas can pull a miracle for you to deceive people.

Just Negodu!!.Both Saraki and Atiku are no longer relevant to Nigerians. This idea of always coming to celebrate or rant something in the air for you to be relevant does not put food on our table, but marketing.May be 'you are only expecting you right at a wrong place. When you people were there, you were going up and down, yet the people could not feel your impacts.it can only happen in Nigeria where yesterday men who were Beneficiaries of laws with the attached resources of the state will come forward again to tell how it can be better. That is deceitful. Why don't you tell us then-you have been to London,Dubai-(a desert transformed to a Mega City ),Paris,New York City -is there any State that meet such opulence of the above mentioned Cities in Nigeria. If anybody is still listening to you, then fools abound.
