Not just that book... That man is one of the few ageless standards for prose worldwide.

Anyone claiming to be literate, and hasn't read any of his books needs to head back to school.

True...... But unfortunately, we could not transplant his brain......

Nah money important pass now......... grin

Igbo amaka,
Mr ACHEBE...some Yorubas said u are no good.
That ur book is always "full of hate"
Then i was like what.. Hate must have a different meaning in yoruba land.

But here is an Irish woman appreciating ur work to the extent of translation it in her language.
Chinua Achebe u are dead but ur incomparable works still speak for u.
U are the best Nigerian writer and one of the best in African.

Wow ! Wonderful, for those of us who don’t know , someone who knows should clarify us , Irish is not English, but does it sound like English?

No, it sounds completely different and an English speaker wouldn't be able to read even one word of it...even some of the letters don't correspond to the same sounds

In English, it's called "Irish" and in Irish, it's called "Gaelic"

The native language of the Irish is called Irish Gaelic. It isn't similar to English but the Irish, as you will know, speak English, too.

No be still English irish people dey speak? what other irish language is she refering to?

Irish is a language of Ireland people. English wasn't their original language but when England invaded them just like they invaded Africa, they imposed English languaage on them. They and Wales are good people.

There's self discovery everywhere in the world now, and enslaved people want their native languages back. Even African-Americans are now learning African language in America. Unfortunately, in Africa, we have been brainwashed beyond repair to the point we now hate ourselves and our native language.

You'll think Chinua Achebe himself would've translated such a great book into Igbo language, if for nothing else but as an academic excercise but he didn't. May be a white man can do it for us in future.

How can an African write a book that has been translated to over 100 languages but EXCEPT HIS OWN LANGUAGE?What's going on in our brains??!!!

Irish is totally different from English...the language sounds like Spanish and Italian

all northern European countries speak English more than Nigeria...but Scandinavians or Nords and Dutch prioritize their traditional language ahead of English, unlike Scotland,Ireland and wales

It is nice to read this. My only concern is the market size. I doubt there are up to a million Irish speakers in the world! Irish people now speak English.

That's due to oppression though, recently they have been trying to revive their languages in schools and among the younger generations

Who won't read that book again and again?

I have always wondered why he chose to be an academic than to write loads of books. For over a decade, he wrote not a single book claiming the burden of academia. I also suspect the aftermath of the civil war.

If he had been prolific, he would certainly have won the Nobel prize. Lack of new material robbed him of the prize which his death made made permanent.

Irish (Gaeilge) is a Goidelic language of the Celtic languages family, itself a branch of the Indo-European language family. Irish originated in Ireland and was historically spoken by Irish people throughout Ireland. Irish is spoken as a first language in substantial areas of counties Galway, Kerry, Cork and Donegal, smaller areas of Waterford, Mayo and Meath, and a few other locations, and as a second language by a larger group of habitual but non-traditional speakers across the country.

According to the 2016 Irish Census, 73,803 people speak Irish in Ireland (this does not include speakers in Northern Ireland). Yet, they still bother. What intelligent forward looking people the Irish must be.
