Onitsha Fire: Governor Obiano Visits Anambra State Fire Service Command, Assures Of Revamp


As part of efforts to ascertain why the Onitsha fire couldn't be quelled on time, Governor Willie Obiano visited the Anambra State fire service command headquarters in Awka.

The Governor was recieved by the Director of Fire Service in the State, Mr Martin Agbili, Commssioner for Public Utilities and Mr Emeka Ezenwanne.

Ater showing the Governor round the premises and some of their equipment, Mr Agbili briefed the Governor that they couldn't arrive the scene on time because of a little failure, explaining that the closest fire fighters who would have made it to the scene, would have been the Onitsha main market unit, but they were unfortunately fighting fire elsewhere.

Mr Agbili stressed that even when the fire fighters got to the scene, people were initially chasing them, pointing out that his men managed to escape the scene.

Lives and properties worth billions of Naira was lost because of the carelessness and ineptitude of a few individuals. HE NEVER CARED ABOUT EQUIPPING THE FIRE STATION. THE FIRE VEHICLES PICTURED HERE WERE HASTILY BROUGHT IN BY HIS MEN LAST NIGHT IN PREPARATION FOR THIS VISIT.

HE DASHED AWAY A HUNDRED VEHICLES TO POLICE AND ARMY AT A BIG CEREMONY 2 DAYS AGO BUT FORGOT TO GIVE FIRE TRUCKS AND FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT TO THE STATE FIRE SERVICE, BECAUSE THEY DONT WORTH IT. AFTERALL CAN HE USE THEM TO RIG ELECTIONS?

HE WAS BUSY DRINKING WITH HIS WIFE WHEN HE WAS TELEPHONED TO INFORM HIM OF THE NEWS OF THE FIRE. HIS AIDES CONFIRM THAT HE WAS NOT EVEN PERTURBED AND DID NOT VISIT THE SCENE UNTIL FORCED TO DO SO THE NEXT DAY BY TOO MUCH CRITICISM.

THE FIRE TRUCKS AT ANAMBRA ARE NOT WORKING, NOT EQUIPPED WITH EVEN SIMPLE WATER, AND IT TOOK FIRE TRUCKS FRON DELTA STATE TO COME ON THE SCENE TO HELP QUENCH THE FIRE.

OBIANO IS A DISGRACE. ALL THAT BOTHER HIM IS DESIGNER CLOTH , SHOE AND CHAMPAGNE.

I have always been saying this, there is no way Onitsha wouldn't have fire units. I skewed the blames on the Fire Service headquarters, because i heard their tanks were empty.
