Onitsha tanker fire, a terror attack —IPOB Published Tony Okafor, Awka The outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra has said the Wednesday Onitsha tanker fire disaster was a terrorist attack. In a statement by IPOB’s Media and Public Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said the consistency with which such mishaps happened in the southern part of the country had clearly shown that they were being executed by certain persons. While sympathising with those who lost their loved ones and property in the inferno, the group said nobody should be deceived that such incidents were mere accidents. It wondered why such incidents were not happening in certain parts of the country where even the owners of such articulated vehicles allegedly hail from. READ ALSO: Why Nigeria is borrowing fresh $3bn from World Bank —Ahmed The statement read in part, “With a profound sense of deep sorrow and sadness we commiserate with all the families and communities that lost loved ones over the terror attack in Onitsha on the 16 October 2019. “This is not the first time an articulated lorry or a tanker laden with inflammable liquid has been involved in mass fatalities in Onitsha or other parts of Anambra State. “The story is always the same, its either their trailer had brake failure or their tanker exploded, all resulting in massive loss of lives and destruction of individually owned businesses. “We the Indigenous People of Biafra call these callous and wicked acts for what it is- a cowardly terrorist attack designed by those evil men determined to exterminate we Biafrans from the face of the earth.” It added, “This massive loss of lives and businesses in Onitsha is most unwelcome. “Why must tankers driven by northerners always explode in the south or the brakes of their trailers always fail in Biafraland? When people say hate is a form of madness, doubt them not. Need an evidence, look no further than ipob. Ipob will push their luck so far even South East generally will put a bounty on Kanus head. Accidents of all sort, from fires to floods to road accidents, gas explosions, etc, happen everyday, but it is only a deliberate plot when it happens in the East according to ipob. You see, mindless hate of this proportion is the reason myself and my people find it disgusting and very provocative whenever these guys mention Igedes as part of their dream state. While people are grieving over the unfortunate loss of their loved ones and livelihood, all this organisation thinks it can do is leverage on it to promote their hate and propaganda. I just weep for IPOB for this, while Onitsha, Anambra, Igbos, Nigerians and the whole world are crying with a heavy heart at this moment and praying for 'Ozoemena'(never again), IPOB is trying to use this as a cheap PR stunt and propaganda. LOL...this is funny. The problem with Nigeria is that when there is a crisis like this, Nigerians would blame everyone but themselves. A whole Onitsha market, and the market management has not put in place fire safety methods and means. And the State government too is not thinking of follwing Lagos and setting up a similar system to Lagos Emergency response..because it means charging higher taxes...and they don't want to lose power. And Buhari won;t improve funding for fire service. And along comes IPOB. Blaming it on 'terrorist attack'. It isn't their fault sha, it is the Nigerian mentality of blaming everyone but themselves. In as much as I don't think this is a terrorist attack, but I think it that an order went to Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi fire service centres not to go and quench the fire... We always like to shift responsibilities in this country. Nothing ever happens naturally or as a result of some people’s negligence or incompetence. Anything that happens is always the handiwork of the other tribe or political opponent or haters. Let’s even assume Buhari (the usual culprit) planned the tanker explosion, why can’t the Anambra State fire service under the control of Anambra State government quickly put out the fire and contain the situation? Lagos State has witnessed tanker explosion/fallen fuel tanker more than any state in Nigeria and they always contain the situation in most cases. Instead of blaming others, ipob should call on Anambra State government to put the state fire service in good shape to prevent future occurrence. 33 Likes 3 Shares |
