Really its not a lie its a popular grammatical quandary that people talk about a lot. Truly, you are supposed to refrain from saying that you "forgot" something in a place for syntactical reasons

But practically it makes more sense to us to say it that way

I got to the school this morning but the gateman said there's no vacancy that if there is he would know. I tried to hand my CV to him he said he won't collect it. He was not friendly. Thank you anyway.

that's the way he behaves. I would have warned you about him. Can you go to the next school on same road? Divine Confidence School? It is near the school. They would definitely take you there
