ogbaagu only comes out in the 9t mostly during burials. You re right-we have achikwu/achukwu in many places apart frm Ekwulobia but ours is one of d most popular. How come a woman like u knows so much about masqurade? Aru! Sacril... The gods said u 'should bring one he-goat + one bunch of mess(udu aru).

We grew up knowing these things naturally.
And I have seen almost all of them as kids.
When there is burial, ofala, Christmas, new yam festival etc.
We see them. Sometimes bigger bros will carry us in his car to go and watch.
Such fun and keeps the adrenaline rushing.
Some masquerades can run for africa grin
A guy may bring out 5k and tell one to pursue him.
Once he catches him, the money is his cheesy

Great write up, nwanne! We have to encourage our children to continue these traditions.
Their parents refused to go home yet they want their children to continue with traditions they never experience

My kinsman, called Air raid, AKA "Agu na-eche mba" once untied that goat and brought it home(Isuikwuato)for merriment, leaving Pericoma in his awe

Copied from wikipedia...That Ijele originated from old Anambra State in Nigeria many centuries ago is not in doubt. According to UNESCO recent commentary on the Origin of Ijele Masquarade, It is believed that a dance group called Akunechenyi from Umuleri & Aguleri communities along the eastern tributaries of the River Niger in Anambra State gave rise to Ijele. ...Op please get your facts right...
