Liverpool’s problems increased this week with the news that Steven Gerrard could be missing after injuring his hamstring playing for England, against France.

Liverpool were furious with the player’s treatment and with Lucas suspended against West Ham and Joe Cole also likely to be missing through injury, their midfield will suffer.

And in their last 10 Premier League games, Liverpool have won just three, lost four and drawn three.

They face a West Ham side unbeaten in three, all draws, but without a win in seven in the Premier League.

It is their worst ever start to a Premier League season after 13 games. They have nine points, two short of their previous worst set in 2002-03, 2006-07 and last season, when they had 11.

And they arrive with a terrible record at Liverpool. In 53 visits, West Ham have won just three (to Liverpool’s 36 victories).
