nwokoromercyme:
The Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill also known as the Social Media Bill on Wednesday passed second reading in the Senate.

Reacting, Nollywood actress, Adesuwa Etomi slammed the Nigerian government for failing to tackle the country’s endemic problem but rather focused on regulating social media.

Speaking via her official Twitter handle, Etomi identified the critical problems rocking the country as thus; lack of quality education, high infant and maternal mortality rate, insecurity, poverty, and lack of job opportunities.

She made the comment in reaction to the social media bill which has scaled the second reading at the senate.

“Millions of children out of school, infant and maternal mortality rates at an all time high, insecurity, poverty, lack of job opportunities… But our leaders are looking to pass a Social Media Bill. This bill will be a big problem. I’m worried for us.”

The National Assembly is doing what will please President Muhammadu Buhari.

They want to gag the Nigerian masses and go about with their bad governance.

The social media bill is one of the bill to introduce authoritarianism in Nigeria.

This is coming after the sacking of the Chief Justice of the Federation and the appointment of their stooge.

Ex-military general like President Muhammadu Buhari are well known for their rigidity and intolerant way of doing things and they do not know the pains Nigeria had to endure for so long before they got this democracy of which he ( Buhari ) is a key beneficiary courtesy of Ex-President Jonathan weakness as a President including docility and foolish gentle manliness.

Thanks to Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo who introduce mobile and internet technologies to Nigeria during his government.

Left for President Buhari, he does not even want internet in Nigeria.

He prefer that Nigeria live in the 19th Century.

Na wetin concern Aboki if Nigeria make progress or not?

They just like power for power sake !

This social media bill that is been raised because of fake news and the hate speech is already in the regulatory laws regulating internet in Nigeria.

Going to raise another bill is a duplication of processes.

Social media problem will correct itself by the time the government at all levels in Nigeria deliver on their electoral promises to the masses.

Who have time for social media when you are busy in your work place.

It is idleness caused by unemployment that is making people get offended and then circulate fake news, hate speech etc

GOOD GOVERNANCE BY THE POLITICAL LEADERS IN NIGERIA WILL DEFINATELY REDUCE THE COMPLAINT FROM THE SOCIAL MEDIA AND ALSO CHECK MATE HATE SPEECH.

There's a lot to be bothered about and not this.
This is indeed the height of misplaced priorities.

Someone that should be worried that she is yet to register for antenatal classes is more concerned over the Social Media Bill.

The truth is,
Our leaders have failed us and so has she.
"Hanty please when wee you born?" we are tired of waiting.

I dont think so, fake news and hate speech are global problems. We are currently seeing its effects in US elections

They must be tackled. The only problem i see with the bill is the prescribing of death by hanging offenders

Otherwise there is no sane country that doesnt fight fake news
