below is an interesting article I just read, just wondering if the current situation in which the government cannot provide and distribute electricity by more conventional means but yet are bullish that they will attain nuclear powered electricity in just 10 years,

what do you think, true or just another Government Propaganda!!!

This is another misplaced priority of the Govt. just like the Communication Satelite project.

How do we manage the nuclear waste from this plant?
We are yet to be able to manage our HUMAN WASTE talkless of NUCLEAR WASTE.

When even the most technologically advanced countries are having problems with their nuclear waste management/disposal.

Nuclear power can be a way out since the government is reluctant to deregulate the power sector. It might help.

Hos is the ommunication satellite a misplaced priority? Some people rather prefer Nigeria to b inthe stone agerather than advancing.

@wa_do_moi

I think what Larufa was referring to is before going on these grand Projects, maybe we should sort out basic things such as transport, water, nitel and other basic ammenities that touch the average Nigerian, he did not mean it that he did not want us to advance I think he just wanted us to take the proper steps and grow before embarking on megalomaniac projects such as nuclear power when we cannot even provide and manage thermal power!!!

By the way "wa_do_moi" strange nickname, pretty suggestive, it might make people have the wrong impression!!!

can the irresponsible govt just give us electricity pls?! (any kind would do)
Re: Nigeria Nuclear Powered by 2017 by jandonguy: 2:45pm On May 24, 2007
@angel101

I think I agree with you, any kind of electricity will do, even if it is windmill operated,

Pure fantasy and a figment of their imagination. Lets face it, Nigeria's irresponsible working class and managers cannot maintain a nuclear reactor! Chernobil ithe making is what they are playing with!

@Bankole01

here is an extract from the article in which they propose to train adequate proffessionals in 3 locations over a 10 year period

aproximately 800 to 900 staff would be required to efficiently operate a 1000MW nuclear power reactor.
Of this number, about 40 may be core nuclear engineers and scientists while another 300 may be professional engineers scientists and technologists with substantial training in various areas of nuclear technology.
He said the categories of professionals to be trained will span the whole gamut of the nuclear power industry, reactor physicists, nuclear engineers, nuclear physicists, radiochemists, electrical, mechanical, chemical and civil engineers, health physicists, radiation protection and safety personnel.
The capacity training is to be undertaken at three centres located in Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Shedda Science and Technology Centre in Abuja.

They cannot even boast of decent graduates who speak proper english talk less of radiochemists, physicists and Engineers!!!!

it has been lingering for a while but only if western nations will allow it to be possible. Another problem is location and it better be located in the east excerpt they plan to build three like north, south and east. If its only one it better be in the middle or the east cuz there's calamity in future and the war that will bring understanding, respect, and if possible unity is looming excerpt some kind of divine intervention occurs.
Re: Nigeria Nuclear Powered by 2017 by dazangel11(f): 7:59am On May 26, 2007
The train that was flaged off was built from south to north

Nuclear reactor in 3 locations none in the east

So many others too numerous to mention

these guys are cultivating another civil war

Nuclear power? Not a bad idea! but the point raised by Larufa as per the disposal of the waste is really crucial cos nuclear waste is not such dat can b left lyin around and suffice to say, not biodegradable and dangerous to the living (we could start havin mutants amongst us undecided,). Thus in a country where proper waste disposal is still giving our Government sleepless nites(here's assuming they care), talkin abt nuclear waste disposal na long thing o. Methinks with proper strategies and DIVINE management of the hydro and gas powered electicity thing should work 4 us though it seems so dismal at present.
