Following the fallout of invasion of the Federal High Court by men of DSS (which many decried) and subsequent arrest of Sowore, the former presidential candidate and chief promoter of the ill fated Revolution Now, there has been several interpretations of law on arrest within the court.

Chief Falana SAN stated clearly on camera while addressing the DSS officials within the court premises that “you cannot arrest within the court premises”. However, on Sunday Politics of Channels TV another SAN while being interviewed by Seun Okinbaloye stated that there is no law that says you cannot arrest within the court premises. He was specifically asked whether there is a law that states no one can be arrested within the premises of the court.

For the learned people in the house, can you give the opinion of the law on arrest of people within the court premises.

Is the court premises a place of refuge where arrest cannot be effected?

Has there been precedence of arrests within the court premises?

Is not arresting a law or an ethics born out of respect for the Judiciary arm of Government?
