Rubbish.

Other countries focus on the exports of textiles and garments here we are talking of buy made-in-Nigeria

Textile and garments usually form the foundation of a prosperous country. It is a sector that Third World nations have a comparative advantage as it is labor-intensive and poor countries have cheap labor in abundance while Whether it is Japan, South Korea, Taiwan or even China, they owe massive thanks to this sector. They exported textiles and garments by the shipload.

TB9ja:
Popular Abuja fashion designer and consultant and CEO of Alex Tailors, Alex Anthony Olusanya,, alongside other stakeholders in the Nigerian fashion industry have called on the Federal Government to rescue the Nigerian fashion industry from imminent crisis.

Speaking to a cross section of journalists in Abuja, Alex Anthony Olusanya advised President Buhari to help the fashion industry by taking the same step taken in the Agricultural industry which encouraged Nigerians to start patronising home-grown rice.

"The fashion industry is a multi-billion industry for any nation, and Nigeria inclusive. Many young educated fashion designers and even many of the uneducated ones by the roadside shops depend on this as a source of income. This in turn brings money back into the account of the government, this is why our government needs to be part of the fashion industry and boost it more to grow."

"The major submission to his Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari is to order the temporary stoppage of all forms of Importation of fashion materials, imported clothes and so on that we can easily get here at affordable prices; basically Nigerians need to start patronising Nigerian designs. Look at what is happening in the agric sector; more Nigerians are now consuming made in Nigerian rice, the farmers are smiling to the bank and more money goes around the economy. We need that type of intervention in the fashion sector and it will be a win-win situation for all."

Alex Anthony Olusanya, a Theatre Arts graduate of the University Of Ibadan also advised that the government should make it mandatory for every government establishment set a day of the week aside when all their employees put on strictly traditional attires and made in Nigerian dresses as a sign of patriotism.

"Our law makers and other people in position of authority continue to wear traditional attires, and i must commend them for that. I see no reason why other government workers can't follow suit. You can wear traditional dresses that will still look trendy on you. Most of our designs at Alex Tailors are made in a way that you can wear them in the midst of people wearing suits and you won't look awkward" .

I don't take the Nigeria fashion serious until they get a better brand and moreover why will you want to stop foreign wears because you want to sell yours, it's a thing of choice here, I can choose to wear any brand that makes me look good. This man needs to understand that fashion can only sell when you do everything to beat the standard of your competitors. the first pic got me laughing grin

Just as Local rice beat foreign rice both in price and quality abi?

What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Simple.

If you must patronize local goods, then it must cut across all sectors. cool

Let us ban everything including treatments of the president in a foreign country.
I can't imagine if PMB had built an ENT specialist hospital somewhere in Nigeria for his treatment, today, Nigeria would have added to its asset and of course, employment and economic development would have added up.

A good idea but there should be lots of ready made ones for those who can't wait for cut and so all the time.
Preferably, big garment factories should open up supported by government not the Trader Moni kind of support to FORCE price downwards and make Nigerian made clothes affordable to all. Aba made products should be supported by its government and national government especially on creating bigger markets for it..
In Cameroon, graduates who want to get a degree in Fashion Designing just spend 1yr+.
Do you know that overseas Fashion Designing is hot cake?

Ankara originated from Europe. Most of the Ankara's you see are imported. So you can now see how westernized Africa is.

You should learn to compete. Other countries didn't ban foreign fashion to make thiers thrive. Grow your business, compete with other foreign counterparts and see how far you will go. Learn from the likes of Kola Kuddus Couture
