WHY THE FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION SHOULD BE SITUATED AT IKIRUN TOWN

It is of great pleasure and gratitude I greet, commend and appreciate the Federal Government of Nigeria for its remarkable decision on the establishment of Federal Colleges of Education in Osun State and other 5 States.

History will tell and make it known that the president Muhammadu Buhari regime has rewritten and corrected the mistakes and injustices of the past by putting the rightful justification to them.

The unbiased decision in situating the six Colleges of Education in the following states which are Bauchi, Benue, Ebonyi, Osun, Sokoto and Edo state, is a great achievement and record to the Academic growth of our Nation.

The Federal Government currently has a commendable policy of seeing to it that each state of the federation has, at a minimum, one federal university, one federal polytechnic and one federal college of education. Which the tertiary institutions are mostly shared amongst the three senatorial district of the state.

“At the moment, in Osun State, the Federal Government has a federal university, the Obafemi Awolowo University, located in Osun East Senatorial District; a federal polytechnic located in Ede, in Osun West Senatorial District, while there is no federal tertiary institution in OSUN Central District, which is one major reason the proposed project is gratifying.

I want to categorically state here that, this College of Education should be built in Ikirun for many reasons. Apart from the efforts of the Honourable representing Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency to channel a proper agitation by moving a motion for this and our Royal father, Oba Abdulrauf Olayiwola Olawale Adedeji II MFR likewise some illustrious sons of Ikirun, it's beyond sentimental attachment to state it firmly on the reasons why Ikirun deserves Federal College of Education.

It is a dismay and unpleasant to hear that a town that happens to be the headquarter of the Federal Constituency doesn't posses any tertiary institution. Not even a private or a state owned institution despite its land mass and population. If a town that is not up to Ikirun can maintain a University campus, some of the towns that are not as big as Ikirun in Osun State have institutions in their town, I think this opportunity of Federal College of Education should also come to Ikirun.

Ikirun town has a very Conducive Market/Environment That Can Accommodate Students traders and visitors, which is one of those things to be considered before siting an higher institution in a community. With its market place generating and adding to the economic growth of the state. The popular Alamisi(Monday market) where market women and business men travel from far distance across different states to buy and sell is highly worthy to note. Having Federal College of Education campus in Ikirun would not only boost the market that contributes to revenue but at the same time, make commodities easily accessible for students.

We've been denied of our right during the governance of the other political party regime in Osun State our right for the deserved state polytechnic moved to another town without a reasonable and genuine reason. But because of riffle and grudges held against the town for its unblemished and salient decisions of the leadership and people of the town.

We hereby plead to the state government, the concerned stakeholders, youth organizations, political grandeurs, local government council and council of chiefs should arise and speak with one voice to agitate for what should be given to us as our right. We should not cease to appeal to the Federal Government through the State Government, Ministry of Education and the district honourable to take a considerable look into this and serve Ikirun land with Justice.

Apart from the highlighted points above, Ikirun is one of the ancient town in Osun state. She accommodate alien and ensure free fair dealing in all ramifications.

I hope federal government are considerate about Osun central and its bill. Police college and Osun State college of education are already situated in Ila. Ikirun deserve an institution

Even within Osun State, citizens are divided over where the new FCE should be cited. To us, that's the dividend of good governance. What about electricity? What about good roads? What about a good and sustainable living standard? Having a school in a senatorial district doesn't provide all these so why the noise?
