Life Is Vanity. Real Cause Of Dagrin's Death Finally Exposed by visaland(m): 4:58pm On Jan 25, 2020
Born Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun on 25 October 1984 to struggling parents in Meiran, Alagbado Lagos while his state of Origin is Ogun, Dagrin as he was popularly known by his stage name is the progenitor of the fusion of Yoruba, English and Pidgin English to rap in the Nigerian music industry. His style of rap was so deep and unique such that it got him a large fan base in such a short time all over the country and beyond before his untimely death.
Not much is known about the early life of the prolific rapper, this article seeks to talk about the true story behind Dagrin's death as against popular belief projected to the public in a bid to honour the memory of the late legend. In Nigeria, the oppressive nature of security operatives towards innocent civilians especially men of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) is no longer news as there are daily reports of extortion/oppression from different people all over the country. Sadly this has been going on for a long time and its also the major reason for the untimely demise of Nigeria's best musical act at the time of Dagrin's death.
In the early hours of April 14 2010,Dagrin's car collided with a stationary trailer parked in front of the Alakara police station, off Agege motor road, Mushin Lagos. It is common knowledge that individuals with the financial power celebrities or not go clubbing to relax with friends or have a drink or two and Dagrin is no exception as he was returning home from club on the night of the unfortunate incident.
According to eye witnesses who were the first responders to the scene of the road crash to assist revealed that Dagrin did not drunkenly crash into a truck parked by the side of the road as put out by the security operatives but rather, the truck driver had been stopped in the middle of the road by police officers who were demanding bribes. Unfortunately, the truck had no back light and the late musician had plowed into it unknowingly. They said the policemen deliberately covered up their role in the accident by recreating an artificial accident scene by the side of the road for the world to see the next morning.
A young man who agreed to speak with SaharaReporters on the condition of anonymity said that : “I was there that night, and we did not even know at first that it was anyone (famous) like that. We were only helping to remove his body and rescue him. What actually happened that night was that the policemen had stopped the cement truck at the middle of the road and of course the could only be asking for a bribe.
Unfortunately, the truck had no rear light (of any kind) and so the oncoming car was unaware of any vehicle ahead. It just rammed head on into it from the back. It rammed into the truck hard without holding the brakes at all, and that is because the truck in its front, had no light to show anything was there”.
“So after we removed the body, we realized it was Dagrin and he was groaning. They asked the truck driver to move forward and park out off the road. They then moved Dagrin's car afterwards so it would look like he went to hit the truck where he parked.
We were not thinking of all these as an attempt to change the story. We were only concerned about helping the victim of an accident, and by when they finished their artificial story, the world was only waiting for Dagrin's recovery. But news broke later that he had died at the hospital”.
“What made their story work was that the car did not hold its breaks, so there was no sign of screeching on the ground. Otherwise the marks of friction from the tyres would be in the spot where it was removed before parking it and rearranging the scene.
They did everything so fast and by morning they were no longer the cause of the accident. Of course they caused the accident that killed Dagrin. And that is how they commit so many atrocities here in Mushin that the public will not know about or what the truth is. We live here and we see them live every time ” he concluded.
The Alakara policemen are described to be very apt and swift in immediately 'cleaning up' their dirty businesses, leaving behind little or no evidence of their atrocities, several sources have told a Sahara Reporters correspondent. It should also be noted that this is not just limited to men of the Alakara police station but all the stations nationwide.
With the eye witness account given above from a first responder at the scene of the crash when it happened, its clear that the fatal crash that claimed Dagrin's life is not as a result of excessive drinking the night out as earlier reported but rather greed from men of the Nigerian Police force who are always in the habit of extorting bribes from innocent civilians.
We can only hope that the powers that be do the needful in order to curb the excesses of the men of the Nigerian police force as soon as possible. Dagrin may be dead but his music lives on in the minds of his admirers and fans worldwide.
