Akwa Ibom: Group Says Rerun Election Is Victory For Democracy by Adverts247: 8:30pm On Jan 28, 2020
Akwa Ibom Liberation Movement, AILM, a foremost sociopolitical group in Akwa Ibom state has described the outcome of the just concluded senatorial/federal and state constituencies rerun election in Essien Udim as victory for democracy and the longsuffering people of the state.

This was contained in a press released signed by the secretary of the group, Solomon Abasiekong Esq., reacting to the court ordered rerun.
According to the release, the successful conduct of the court- ordered Senatorial/Federal and State constituencies rerun elections scheduled for Saturday 25th January 2020 and the outcome thereof was very significant since it heralded the liberation of the people from a political siege which held them bound for years.

Abasiekong stated that "the people of Akwa Ibom have witnessed yet another phase of the irrecoverable decline of Chief Godswill Akpabio’s self centered political career and the end of his vice-grip on the state. Akpabio knew that sooner or later he would be flushed into the cesspool of history after he turned against his people in the course of his unbridled pursuit for power".

He observed that as someone, who never actually contested and won a free and fair election, Chief Akpabio may have hoped that defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, would better his chances thus he deployed his goons who would eliminate his perceived opponents and scare the electorate into doing his bidding, but Akwa Ibom people showed great courage in the face of threats to life. They when out emassé to remind Akpabio that power truly belongs to the people.

"All through the post election litigation, the former senate minority leader strutted about as if he owns the judiciary. His disgraceful interruptions during tribunal sittings and his baseless allegations against Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) amounted to nothing after all. He was humiliated when the Appeal court ordered a rerun rather than accede to his prayers to be declared the winner".

He said that before the just concluded rerun election, Akpabio who had earlier withdrawn claiming he was 'engaged on a 'national assignment' also forced his boys to issue a notice claiming to withdraw from the rerun on a flimsy grounds that the INEC REC, Mr. Mike Igini was not trustworthy.
"They only confirmed their trepidation of contesting in elections where votes are actually counted". He said.

PRESS RELEASE

ESSIEN UDIM RERUN: THE END OF GODSWILL AKPABIO'S VICE-GRIP ON AKWA IBOM STATE

1) The successful conduct of the court- ordered Senatorial/Federal and State constituencies rerun elections scheduled for Saturday 25th January 2020 and the outcome thereof was very significant in the political history of Essien Udim local government area and the entire Akwa Ibom state because it brought a closure to the 2019 elections in the state and more importantly heralded the liberation of the people from a political siege which held them bound for years.

2) Once again, the people of Akwa Ibom have witnessed yet another phase of the irrecoverable decline of Chief Godswill Akpabio’s self centered political career and the end of his vice-grip on the state. Akpabio knew that sooner or later he would be flushed into the cesspool of history after he turned against his people in the course of his unbridled pursuit for power.

3) Chief Akpabio may have hoped that defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, would better his chances thus he deployed his goons who would eliminate his perceived opponents and scare the electorate into doing his bidding, but Akwa Ibom people showed great courage in the face of threats to life. They went out emassé to remind Akpabio that power truly belongs to the people.

4) All through the post -election litigation, the former senate minority leader strutted about as if he owns the judiciary. His disgraceful interruptions during tribunal sittings and his baseless allegations against Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) amounted to nothing after all. He was humiliated when the Appeal court ordered a rerun rather than accede to his prayers to be declared the winner.

5) Before the just concluded rerun election, Akpabio who had earlier withdrawn claiming he was 'engaged on a 'national assignment' also forced his boys to issue a notice claiming to withdraw from the rerun on a flimsy grounds that the INEC REC, Mr. Mike Igini was not trustworthy. They only confirmed their trepidation of contesting in elections where votes are actually counted.

6) If Akpabio's aim was to deceive his opponent in PDP to relax while he surreptitiously push in for an injunction for the removal of the INEC REC to pave way for election manipulation, then he has failed. We are aware that when the judge he approached could not consent to his demand, Akpabio moved to save his face by issuing another release on the eve of the rerun election while paying hundred thousand naira to each APC unit agent to mobilize to the field

7). If Akpabio did not participate in the election, why did he pay money to his party unit agents to mobilize support and votes for him? Why did he instruct his cousin, Ibanga Akpabio to cart away election materials within his domain?

cool. APC should know that for Akpabio to be defeated in his local government area in a rerun election conducted by INEC, shows that Senator Akpabio is roundly rejected in Akwa Ibom State. He is a drowning man living in past glory. Akpabio’s defeat has marked him out as the most unpopular minister in President Buhari’s administration.

Signed
Solomon Abasiekong Esq.

Secretary

Victory for democracy

Pdp favorite phrase, bulk of their members and supporters suffer from sentimental dementia

Difference between the figures in those election results is the kind of victory that pdp are all about

Always on about APC rigging, Google Maurice iwu and see what real rigging looks like.

Akpabio should concentrate on rebuilding the NDDC. He will do better.

He is the only politician to serve as the governor, senator and as a minister from the south-south.
