Today, a mammoth crowd of Imo APC members staged solidarity march in Owerri for gov Hope Uzodinma. This was after Uche Onyeagocha organized a protest march against the judgement of the Supreme Court which sacked Emeka Ihedioha of PDP as governor of Imo state.
Uche Onyeagocha was until last year a staunch member of APC and close ally of former gov Rochas Okorocha of Imo state of APC.
Onyeagocha later became Chief of Staff to gov Ihedioha of PDP after Onyeagocha tore some election result sheets he suspected to rival the vote counts of his kinsman, Emeka Ihedioha, during the night of governorship election result collation centre in Owerri. He was arrested by police and released later.

Uche Onyeagocha was the most visible of the organizers of the protest in Owerri against the sack of Emeka Ihedioha by the Supreme Court. The protest was on as the application of Ihedioha/PDP for review of the Supreme Court judgement that sacked Ihedioha was lodged at the appropriate quarters.

Another kinsman of gov Ihedioha, Obi Nwakanma, who writes frequently for Vanguard News, wrote recently on Vanguard news and urged the people of Imo state to rise up and overthrow the APC governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma.

Using Owerri native dialect of Igbo language, Onyeagocha rouses the protesters.
Unarguably, there is the deep seated anger in the minds of Onyeagocha and the crowd he addresses - anger over non adoption of EQUITY for choice of governor in Imo state.

But Onyeagocha is forcing a false narrative about EQUITY to people. He needed to be briefed that equity in choice of governor from three senatorial zones in a State is to discourage an unhealthy situation where a senatorial zone that is advantaged to produce governor disproportionately locates government institutions of development on the advantaged senatorial zone, thus discourage development in the disadvantaged zones.

But an unhealthy situation in Imo state is that in the name of developing State capital, successive governors of Imo state since 1976 have developed Onyeagocha's Owerri senatorial zone to become nearly a century of modernity ahead of Orlu and Okigwe senatorial zones.

In addition, beginning from the era of military governments, Owerri people cornered all government institutions that induce development to Owerri before return to civil rule in 1999, no consideration for Orlu and Okigwe senatorial zones.
Orlu and Okigwe zones are stripped nearly naked - were never put into consideration, as all the six government universities and polytechnics subsidized with tax payers money were being cornered for Owerri zone. There are more than 150,000 students and staff of these tertiary education institutions clustered in Owerri area. More than N2 billion revenues from the staff, students and these tertiary education institutions yield monthly to the development process of Owerri zone. These tertiary education institutions contribute to mass education for Owerri zone deriving from closeness to multi faculty govt tertiary education institutions.

Former gov of Imo state, Evan Enwerem from Owerri saw FUTO, AICE and PolyNekede - all in Owerri, yet he established Imo state university in Owerri. He refused to establish IMSU in a better and empty facility at the closed AICE campus in Orlu.
Udenwa government started plans to establish Imo state Polytechnic at the closed campus of AICE in Orlu. Once Udenwa left office, Imopoly was quickly established at the edge of Owerri in Umuagwo of Orlu senatorial zone.

Two former governors from Orlu zone were fought to a standstill by Owerri people each time the governors contemplated removal of Imo state university from Owerri to Orlu area.

Imo state has all its Federal Housing Estates in Owerri, perhaps unique in that regard among the other states in Nigeria.

Imo state is one na - that's what an Onyeagocha or an average man from Owerri zone would tell anyone to explain why all institutions of govt that induce development must continue to be in Owerri. But an Onyeagocha or any of the protesters would not accept that Imo state is one when considering from which senatorial zone a governor of the state comes from.
Emeka Ihedioha is from Owerri senatorial zone.
Mostly behind the protest in Owerri is a perception of Inequity in choice of governors from the 3 zones in Imo state - not perception of injustice from the Supreme Court judgement. If there are others in protest, they are people of fear of - Hausa a batala Awka. But the fear is unfounded. Just before the last governorship election, Hope Uzodinma was in PDP. He must have joined the APC purposely to save Imo state from Rochas Okorocha.

They should organize 28days solidarity march so that at the end of the march, will would have been in March while Uzodinma keep matching forward
