Oyo State Government has released the names of Park Managers, who will oversee the turnaround of the Motor Parks in the local governments across the state.

The Park Managers, according to a statement from the office of the Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Prof.Rapheal Afonja, confirmed that the local Government and Intra-State Park Managers managers would be used to collect revenue for the State Government in the various motor parks within the State.

The statement also indicated that a list of members of Disciplinary Committees that will handle disciplinary issues arising from the various parks would be released soon.
The statement added that the inauguration of the Park Managers and members of Disciplinary Committee would hold on Wednesday this week.

The Commissioner admonished all Drivers and Motor Park users to comply with the recent developments.

I really appreciate this laudable idea. But this is only an interim solution that must not exceed its usefulness, otherwise, we will be back to a more organized and advanced shrewd days of the nurtw.

The problem I see with this move by Governor Seyi is that it is not sustainable in the long run because he won't be governor forever. This continuity problem is responsible for the stunted growth in our society, and more so in Oyo State in particular. There is nothing these so-called park managers will do that the NURTW couldn't have been compelled to do by the governor himself.

Every new administration keeps creating new policies, by fiat, often based on political considerations. Only for the next administration to come in, dismantle, and create its own. So you end up with a situation of one step forward and 3 steps backwards. No society can ever make enduring progress with such practise.

By alienating a well-entrenched NURTW (that cannot be wished away by him whether he likes it or not), he is setting the stage for even more future crises. Whether he likes it or not the NURTW will always be stakeholders in the state's transportation sector as is the case everywhere in the country. He should have regulated them and brought them under his influence in order to achieve his aims instead of proscribing them and then creating his own set of 'managers' by fiat, without even being backed by law.

This man is wowing everyone in Oyo State. A good move.

that's our problem in Nigeria...we are always against great idea....are you happy with how thugs collect money from drivers and give it to head thugs while they spend lavishly and govt don't have money for basic amenities..... this is just a way to get for govt and stop diverting money to private pocket

You obviously didn't comprehend the crux of my point, which is that Seyi is just distracting himself with his arbitrary policies lately. From his handling of the local government crisis to the confiscation of lands, to this park management one. It is obvious that he is just creating needless problems for his administration when he ought to be tackling more pressing issues that will enable his administration stabilise and deliver on its mandate. If he continues like this before you know it 4-yrs will be up, and don't be surprised that the same Seyi will start to court the same NURTW 'thugs' as foot soldiers for reelection purposes.

Everyone knows that NURTW thugs worked for PDP during the election that brought him to power and up till today a considerable number of the PDP thugs are NURTW members. If peradventure he loses reelection someone else can come and hand the management of the parks back to the same NURTW so we would be back to square one again. He should get down to the serious task of governance instead of these distractions because Oyo people don't have that much patience for frivolities. Time is of the essence.

You do have a point but it is also a fact that this is only a temporary solution.

As a taxi driver in the state, I can tell you without mincing words that this PM team will turn out worse than the nurtw if allowed to operate beyond usefulness. Go and write it down, this idea may become one of SM worst nightmare if not properly sorted.

It is a laudable idea that is only fit to stand in gap until an effective solution is installed.
