The Kaduna state Government on Saturday commenced the distribution of food items to support the poor and vulnerable families in Zaria.
This was to cushion the effect of the lockdown imposed by the state government to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chairman, Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Committee (UBEC), Alhaji Abdullahi Sani, chaired the distribution of the items at one of the clusters at Anguwar Kaya in Zaria Local Government.

Sani said there are 14 clusters and each cluster has a seven-member committee, adding that the committee comprised of traditional, religious leaders and other key stakeholders.

He added that the cluster committee selected the beneficiaries since they operated at the grassroots level and were more conversant with the living standards of their people.

“The items each cluster will receive include 1,000 cartons of indomie, 85 bags of 50kg Rice, 129 cartons of four litres of vegetable oil.

Other items include 12 bags of beans, 420 bags of semovita, and 140 cartons of spaghetti while the undisclosed number of bags of Garri and Sugar are yet to arrive,” he said.

The Chairman also announced that each cluster would receive the sum of N70,000 for logistics and other expenses during the exercise.

He warned committee members to strictly adhere to the guidelines on the distribution of the items as their allowance would be paid after the exercise.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kaduna State Government on Wednesday commenced the distribution of foodstuffs worth N500 million to vulnerable people in the state.

A document obtained by NAN identified the pilot councils in the distribution exercise as Chikun, Kaduna North, Kaura, Kachia, Jema’a, Sabon Gari and Zaria.

The document showed that Sani is in-charge of the distribution in Zaria and Sabon Gari LGAs.


A breakdown of the food items showed that 24,000 cartons of Indomie, 2,040 bags of rice, 3,360 packs of Spaghetti and 3,096 packs of vegetable oil would be distributed to the vulnerable in Zaria and Sabon Gari councils.

Also to be distributed in the two council areas are 10,080 bags of semovita, 2,880 packs of sugar, 288 bags of beans and 5,280 bags of cassava flour.
