Covid-19 Management In Nigeria: A Reality Check. by butterfly777(m): 7:03am On Apr 18, 2020
The rate at which new cases of covid-19 infection are recorded everyday shows that the lockdown on many parts of the country is ineffective.

Reasons:

1. The government has been unable to provide for the feeding of people during the lockdown, hence the need to relax the lockdown in some days of the week. This renders the whole sit-at-home directive a joke. People rush out and mingle. They go back home to mingle more with neighbors and relatives. This has done little in keeping the infection off. Infected people who are not yet symptomatic can infect others easily.

2. People are not taking social distancing serious. One of the biggest challenges at tackling this pandemic is the thought of the average Nigerian that it can not infect someone close to me. Hence, they continue to hobnob and touch with little care. The virus continues to spread.

3. Virus or no virus, the government cannot feed the people for long. Therefore, people need to go out, make money and buy food to eat.

4. The fact that people continue to contact the virus despite the lockdown shows that the approach is not effective, and a change of strategy is necessary.

5. The simple most important measure in curbing the spread is to avoid touching the face (mouth, nose, eyes).

6. We don't know when a medicine for covid-19 will be found, and people can't remain t home forever.

Solution:

1. Free people to go work and make their daily bread.

2. Make the use of face covers compulsory for everyone outside his room. The purpose of the face covers is to discourage the touching of the faces as well as reduce contact of liquid from an infected person.

3. Emphasize social distancing in public places.

4. Intensify research on prevention and cure of the virus.

This is a more realistic approach since we do not know when a medicine for covid-19 will be found. If it takes years to find a cure, a we going to stay t home for years?

The government should urgently consider this.

This too shall pass.
God bless Nigeria.
