Government has suspended recruitments into all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) indefinitely until when the economy recovers from Coronavirus pandemic. Sunday INDEPENDENT gathered that the Coronavirus pandemic had halted all recruitment because there had been drastic fall in the price of crude oil which triggered the review of 2020 budget benchmark. The review in 2020 budget benchmark had had adverse economic effects, so the Federal Government decided to reduce 2020 appropriation bill, so the personnel cost of all miniseries, extra-ministries and parastatals had been reduced due to the pandemic. A competent source told Sunday INDEPENDENT that “this means all recruitments are suspended for now till one knows maybe when there is increases in crude oil price or when the economy improves drastically.” The Federal Government had in the second quarter of 2019 approved recruitment into various federal ministries and agencies to enable unemployed graduates to get the opportunity to work and reduced the rate of unemployment in the country. President Muhammadu Buhari consequently approved recruitment into the Ministry of Interior which had the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) The Nigerian Custom Service (NCS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had since embarked on massive recruitment drives. The NSCDC, NCS, NDLEA and NPF began their recruitment in the third quarter of 2019, while INEC, CBN, ICPC, and NIS started theirs in the first quarter of 2020. Several millions of applicants had applied for these different jobs, even as did the Computer Based Test (CBT) expecting calls for final verification and documentation, but the global pandemic put and an end to the exercises. https://www.independent.ng/fg-suspends-employment-indefinitely-over-covid-19/ |
