IBEDC is the most useless electricity distribution company with incompetent staff for modern day electricity management. All they know how to do is to distribute bills and cut light as if thats all that their service entails. Very useless people i swear.

The problem with Nigeria and power is that we don't realize that power is not cheap. And we haven't realized that power has been privatized. So, the money to make it better comes from our pocket.

We need money to raise our power generation and fix our neglected transmission system. And I doubt our DISCOS have a magic money tree.

but they want free money from the government. nigerians want western lifestyle but are not willing to pay for it. let me tell you something ? during this lockdown i have discovered the beauty in not having light all the time. so duuring this lockdown nepa has being giving us 20 hours of light and because of this my light bill has gone up to 30,000 naira a month. before when they didnt bring it often it was 10,000 a month. abeg nepa make una take una light. all i need is 8 hours a day. make i no come drain acount because of 24 7 electricity.

That is why personal prepaid meter is the best(and not prepaid meter u share with neighbors) eg in Cotonou- It is readily available and installable (by boys who have some knowledge of electrical stuffs),

In as much as the act is condemnable, at times this people are too arrogant simply because they have government apparatus backing them.
I once did same to an official.
I came home from work at about 11am to see them climbing my pole to cut the wire. I stopped the man but he told me if I don't produce my bill he will cut the wire. All efforts to tell him I don't owe any money but that the person holding the bill had taken it to work so he can do photocopy and paste proved abortive. He just insisted that if truly I paid, I should have pasted the bill at the gate. I even told him to give me the benefit of the doubt and check back the next day to confirm; if he did not see or notices the amount is owing he should then cut. This he still refused. I then asked him if the wire had been cut before, that it is an evidence I don't owe money. He was adamant and I got angry.
I had to ask him if I should be the one to prove to him I am not owing, that he should have records of customers that are owing the company before embarking on disconnection spree. More so, why come at a period when I would be at work sourcing for funds to pay his company and thereby his salary. That he was very insensitive. I then told him if he dared, he should go ahead and climb the ladder that I will drop him. He dared me and told me, "oh, try it. You will rot in jail, bla bla bla". I just kept my cool and waited. He climbed up and wanted to cut the wire. So I pulled the ladder from under him. He was lucky to quickly hold on to the pole. His boss had to run to us and apply wisdom else things will escalate. It am more than capable of defending myself. I hate cheating and don't take shit from people. I will warn you before I take action but woe betide you if you think I am joking. Several policemen in my area can attest to that. But I will do what is expected of me. If my documents are OK, why should I bribe you? If I pay my bills, why cut me off. There are so many injustices in this country simply because we refuse to react and just take the shit. But now I am using a Prepaid meter so I am fee of their hassles. Even one came the other day and cut the wires to it saying it is illegal connection because I tapped from a neighbor. He said I am supposed to pick direct from the pole. I then asked if I did any bypass to make it illegal. He answered no. So what is illegal in a prepaid meter that has no bypass? I simply got his superiors number from him and placed a call through. That one asked that it be reconnected(I had once had an altercation with their office which made me report at their headquarters so she knows me and what I am capable of). Still the one that cut my wire had the guts to ask me for reconnection fee. Imagine! I just told him "reconnection fee for your error? Ensure the light is restored before I get back home else I will take it up with you". It was then that he begged me to give him something because they are not staff but get commission from what they bring in. So I gave him 300 and he thanked me. If I had not been aggressive on the two instances, I would have been played. Easy does it, but not in this naija.

So the NEPA man may have been given punishment that was long overdue. They see themselves as tin gods. We have been without light for a year now. If eventually it is restored, crazy bills will start coming. Everyone is ready to exploit you; you are the one that will not allow it.
