Let parents at least use this lockdown period to bond with their kids. Let the kids learn other things like crafts, domestic chores, etc. Let them be revising what they've been taught before, or let them just play.
We run a unified academic calendar at primary and secondary level. So, if they conclude their term online, so what happens to their counterparts in government schools?

Honestly this sounds like a typical Nigerian mindset where they have crab mentality, dragging each other down.

This is the bane of development in Nigeria, exactly how nigeria works where a particular region wants other regions to follow them in their snail pace development.

Competition foster development. If others see you run they will be forced to run, then everybody starts moving on a fast pace. In America, kids go school online in this lockdown.

So what if the lockdown goes on for a year, you want the children to lose a whooping one year of academic session learning chores and crafts and bonding with parents?

This is the time everybody should be thinking how to start back normal activities in the midst of this virus without having to put a stop to everything if not, it will take years to recover from time lost to this pandemic.

You, stay put at home and not think how you will improvise to start making money.

If the government don't want to think out of the box for a way to join the pace then they are stupid and backward and it is utter madness to stop people who want to move forward.

If you have your kids, keep them at home bonding with them no school will force you to join online school.

If you can Afford to send your kids to a school that pays over 250k per term, then you shouldn't have complaints about devices and power you need for the online classes. Only High cost schools would offer this, so Lagos state government should leave them alone

See as you dey reason sef...

What if some of the parents carried out capital projects with the money they have expecting to start recuperating the funds before the next term and this happen...

Why resuming when public and less privileged have no chance to? Let us all be one during this unexpected global crisis.

They are resuming because online school doesn't transmit covid 19 and children will remain occupied and sharp. Rather than stop them based on pull him down syndrome, government should also start their own online schools or radio school or keep shut

Some of you hardly take time to think before you speak!! Use your head and know that not every parent can afford such expenses and it is the job of the government to keep the pace of their educational system uniform. Try to reason before you speak cause such unguarded responses only exposes your foolishness and reduces your chances for any meaningful online collaborations.

So what happend to students who their parents can not afford 250k as fee?
The same thing that happens to those who cannot afford to send their children to school. It's not by force to register and pay for the online lessons. Promotions and exams are not based on the online lessons, it's just to keep the children's mind occupied during this period.

Did you read what the commissioner said? Resuming 3rd term online, those students who can't afford to learn online what will happen to them?

Na wa o. How do they want teachers to get paid.
Those public school teachers will certainly get paid but what about private school?

It is well

In this aspect, let the school appeal to the parents to pay something to augment not to force them. Simple.

What do you mean "keep the pace of their educational system uniform"? Are you saying I cannot pay extra for my child's educational development if I can afford it? Are they not going to sit for uniform exams like JAMB, NECO, WAEC, GCE, etc? The fact that some pupils attend Public schools, while other attend British - American has already destroyed your uniform educations system.

So we should hold back a generation of students, because government cannot even attempt to provide any kind of online tuition for their children? A government that prioritizes black Prados over blackboards, talk less of computers for children.

Schools in practically every country outside Africa are still in session online - public and private, primary all the way to university. And you know the irony, elite children are not going to be held back - they have the resources to enroll in foreign online classes.

You are the one whose utterances sound like you said.

Did you know that a particular religion have their church services week in week out with the entire congregations worshipping thru Zoom? while backward others are either exposing themselves to the virus by breaking social distance to gather or they forgot about worship.

What if this lockdown lingers for 1 year? Do you know what it means to lose a whooping year ?

Challenges should make one to think out of the box on how to bit it.

No school is forcing anyone to pay or join the class online . if you cannot afford it, sit home and count your loss or improvise a way out but let people who can afford it move forward in that case it will move govt to join the pace.

Govt in this country is stupid and wants everybody to move on the same pace that is why Nigeria is the same. Imagine if the states can be autonomous, how much far some would have developed.

This is not a socialist system of govt Mr man.
join the moving car or get left behind.

If we followed your comment to its natural conclusion, you might also be advocating for no private schools in the first place. After all, not every parent can afford private schools, so we should all sit and wait for government to provide free primary education for everybody. Until then, because there's not enough public schools, those who cannot attend should sit at home for a decade. No private lessons lessons either, because it's an unfair advantage against those who can't afford them.

She didn't bar private schools from teaching. Schools shouldn't charge full fees but the school will have to pay it's staff and where will the money come from. However, the media teaching which the state is giving is for only SS3. What Happens to other classes? Private schools are trying help their pupils.
But then... it should be at a discounted price, high discount.

*Modified* Online teaching should only be temporal and shouldn't cost any additional fees. Once the covid 19 period is over there should be a catch up or crash course for students that couldn't connect.

My child fees after the discount(25%) is 295,000 for a child in JSS1, this is too much.

I am in support of what lagos state government has issued out, there is no way you can get a full 3rd term, Infact we should forget about 3rd term in schools calendar this year.

If private school must operate it should not be a capitalist approach, everyone is affected by Coronavirus issues.

No need for third term. Thirds term ends in July or so and we are all still in the house because of coronavirus, so tell me how will they be able to complete 3rd term?

Students should be assessed by thier first and second term.

Newsflash: Some of these children are due to begin WAEC examinations once the lockdown is over.

In the face of uncertainty, they are likely to lose interest in preparation. The schools have to do something to ensure that they remain steadfast to learn.

Very good... They are rushing online as if all students and pupils have constant light and access to free internet... Is it someone whose parents source of income may have potentially dried up due to covid 19 that will bear the cost of internet and fueling of generator?

This epidemic should open the eyes of government on what the priority should be in terms of development for the next five-ten years...

1. Accurate and up-to-date population data for social and economic planning.
2. 18-24 hours uninterrupted electricity daily
3. Functional health system
4. Cheap access to internet.
5. Slash salaries and allowances of political office holders to 30% or less of their current value. Buhari should do it via Executive fiat and order RMAFC to immediately implement within 2 months... If NASS attempt to prevent him, I'm sure 5 million Nigerians will occupy nass in Support of the president, unless he too is not serious and honest about repositioning this country.

Provide these things first and Nigerians will start hustling their way before you start thinking of constructing roads and bridges which are avenues to loot funds...

I just laugh in taekwando grin

How I wish all this those things u mentioned is simple to implement with the government we have today, Nigeria wouldn't be where it is.

But I still believe there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!
