Nigeria's Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has written to President Muhammadu Buhari, recommending the sack of Mr. Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Street Journal learnt that in the memo to the President, Malami recommended that Ibrahim Magu should be sacked on grounds of "diversion of recovered loot, insubordination and misconduct.”

Several sources revealed that Malami, alongside the memo, attached a shortlist of three candidates as a possible replacement for Magu.

However, one of Magu's supporters within the Presidency disclosed that he is fighting back against the powers that seek to replace him.

The source said:

” Removing Magu at this time when he has given muscle to Buhari’s anti-corruption fight would be a mistake.

“It is painful that the EFCC boss is facing certain powerful forces who have decided to remove him in spite of his remarkable achievements.”

Other sources have said that with the gravity of allegations heaped on Ibrahim Magu, the Presidency may be pushed to investigate him and then draw necessary conclusions.

Another source who spoke with selected journalists said:
