Pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere on Monday said the recent revelation by Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice on Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has questionable character and is unfit for the job.

Malami, had last week recommended to President Muhammadu Buhari the sacking of Magu.

In a memo to the president, he anchored his recommendation on several grounds ranging from diversion of recovered loot to insubordination and misconduct by Magu,who has been on the post in acting capacity since November 9, 2015, following the 8th Senate’s rejection of his confirmation twice.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere said aside Malami, the rejection of Magu twice by the 8th Senate, query issued to him by former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun and the damning reports written against Magu by the DSS are clear evidence that the anti-corruption boss is unfit for the job.

“Magu has always had this questionable credentials. Twice, his name was sent to the Senate during the last dispensation”.

“Twice, the DSS wrote a damning report about him, calling his credentials to question. Just two days ago, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent 207 names to the Senate for confirmation but Magu’s name is not there.”

“So, it is clear that this anti-corruption boss has questionable credentials”.

“Also, don’t forget that the former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun queried Magu at a time that there were discrepancies between his report card and what was actually recovered”.

“So, now with the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami now coming out with this damning verdict on him, clearly I don’t think Magu is a fit man for that job”.

In Nigeria, many top public service positions are mainly gotten by the nomination or recommendation of a top politician or senior government official. Sadly, majority of our politicians have no integrity. So who do you think they will nominate? Many times their cronies who will do their bidding. Should Magu ever be replaced, it will be an opportunity for another undercover corrupt being to be nominated to chop life as EFCC chairman, and the cycle will continue. Funny enough this Afenifere guys who are complaining have a very questionable reputation too
