Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Atiku Bagudu, on Friday, said the National Executive Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress did no wrong by dissolving the party’s National Working Committee and putting in place a caretaker committee.

He said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who is the leader of the party would never do anything that is contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution.

The party’s NEC had at a meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday dissolved the NWC and set up a caretaker committee led by the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Bunu.

But 18 members of the dissolved NWC loyal to the party’s sacked national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, insisted that the NEC meeting where the decision was taken was illegal.

They said they were consulting their lawyers and other stakeholders on the dissolution and other decisions taken at the meeting.

After leading APC governors on a “thank you” visit to Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Friday, Bagudu insisted that the President received due legal advice before he took a position on the crisis that rocked the party.

When asked for his view on those who were reported to be considering legal action on the matter, the governor of Kebbi State said, “The media says a lot of things, but Mr President is very clear that he received due legal advice.

“Remember that before the 2019 primaries, Mr President demonstrated to everyone in this country that he will never sacrifice due process for expediency.

“Even when it was convenient to extend the tenure of the then executive so that we don’t have a convention and primary at the same time, Mr President said ‘no, no matter how tough it is, we are going to do the correct legal thing.’

“So, Mr President will never do anything which the constitutional provisions of the party, talk less of the country, do not allow him to do.”

Bagudu said he was at the Presidential Villa with Buni; the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; a member of the Caretaker and Extraordinary National Convention Committee representing the North-Central and Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello; and the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, to thank Buhari for all he has been doing for the party and the country.

The governor claimed that media reports on the decisions reached at the NEC meeting indicated that many people were pleased.

ToggleHe lauded the present regime’s achievements in the areas of economy, food security, and accountability.

Despite the concerns being raised by groups and individuals on security challenges being experienced across the country, Bagudu said he was hearing of “security gains” daily across the country.

He said the President was happy that the leadership crisis in the party had been resolved.

Giadom claims he is the legal chariman. He and his camp took the dissolution with grace and joy and happily allowed the NEC to take over.

Oshiomole claims he is the legal chairman. He and his camp are angry about the dissolution, aggrieved and are heading to court.

This tells us something. Like the parable of King Solomon in the bible.

The fake mother of the child was more than happy to give the child up for death.

But the real mother of the child refused to give the child up for death.

This is the scenario at play here.

Like the PDP have told us, APC did not give the mandatory 7 or 14 days notice required for holding a NEC meeting (I wonder wetin consine them)

The excuse that it was the continuation of the meeting in March that was suspended is bullsiiit.

The NEC meeting truly violated a lot of provisions.

2011 south perfected plan to relegate the Fulani canal from politics ....it worked ...igbos even refused insensitives even when we knew we were next in line if north ruled 4 years ....
2015 they gave yorubas same insensitives and they jumped ...igbos told them north never have intention to hand over power ...they would use u and dumb u ...but they said no we are vice and held several positions ... today how far ?

The only way tinubu can save his political career is to back n Igbo man make this a North vs south thing and watch the north withdraw .....apart from that north would rule and would come for Lagos

It is normal for the disgruntled members to threaten fire and brimstones.
But make no mistake, those who may want to contest the position of the president will be 'beaten' to fall into line.

He doesn’t need to back any Igbo presidency ambition. He can support Atiku to win election as they are friends or float another regional party. Options are too much available. Go n make your Ibo president, count us out of your prediction.

The Tinubu camp's disillusionment with the NWC dissolution is understandable as it has all but put paid to Jagaban's 2023 APC ticket pursuit.
The man has himself to blame for that.

I've always told my APC-supporting friends on this forum that the hope of reciprocity (from Buhari/the north) on which they hinge their entire 2023 aspiration is foolhardy.

Besides their unbridled fervour to oust GEJ at all cost, apparently the ACN bloc had no other motivation going into the merger that birthed the APC.

Despite going to the negotiation table with a much more formidable structure (ACN governors, Senators and MPs) than Buhari's CPC that had zero elected office holders, Tinubu never deemed it necessary to broker a (written) formal deal for power rotation akin to the PDP's zoning arrangement.
He senselessly collapsed his entire ACN structure and declared an unwavering support for the quest to return power to the north, while hoping that his obeisance and complete subservience to Buhari will endear him to the north in his wild-goose-chase pursuit of the presidency.

...and to compound Tinubu's woes, he has completely burnt bridges with the SS/SE who now deem his name virtually an abomination when discussing 2023 presidency...no thanks his 2015 betrayal.

case close

You have said it all.
We warned yorubas yet they mocked us with different names like 5%, ipob terrorist, wailers... name them.
They think you can eat your cake and still have it.
They said igbos don't build bridge with others especially north now we want to do what they did but they are crying foul.
Their wailing never start.

Anybody who is aggrieved about what the President did can go to Court but be rest assured, "there will be dire consequences."

The President said he received TRUE LEGAL ADVICE.

As a President, he has a plethora of the best in terms of law and have taken action(s) in the interests of his Party.

This back-and-forth makes no sense to me at all. If the same Tinubu or Oshiomhole intends to see the President tomorrow, I don't think he wouldn't oblige them.

I have said it severally, the President is now in charge and intends to do it his way. Everybody go and strategise for the upcoming Convention, dazzol.
