We are glad to bring to you a new project we are embarking upon for a Nairaland here.

Project Location: Ekori, Cross River State.
Project Title: 4 Bedroom ultra modern Duplex with outdoor swimming pool.

Kindly follow up.
We are commencing tomorrow with setting out.

Our work team came down from Lagos and some from Port Harcourt to make this happen.

It hasn't been an easy journey though. That's a story for another day with this inter state Lockdown problems.

Our target is to get to decking and do it in 21 Days from tomorrow morning... June 29th.

All though we would do the setting out today 28th June. Then rest coz we have been on the road for 2 days to get here.

We just move this way in any site we go on.
The colors are brilliant.

After reviewing with the team.
We started what we do best.

We would have dug today but we decided to rest a bit and resume fully tomorrow.

Some cultural stuff exists here about digging foundation for an indigine. Interestingly, I have once experienced that in Uratta in Imo State 2018 when I went with my team too for a project.

In all, it's all good and promises to be fun while work is still been done as it should.

We are on the move already...
Setting out completed in a day with Digging and Blinding of the foundation. Welder works also 95% ready with columns and base.

Work updates from today.
We did the pillar base concrete works and commenced block forming on day 2.
We formed blocks at 20% on this same day.

Day 3 - July 1st.
We did the block work forming by 95%
Also the carpenter boarded the pillars in the 20% block work formed yesterday.

Brick layers used here = 4
Labour used here = 8 to achieve this speed of works coz the nature of the blocks here is entirely different from the Hollow blocks you know. This ones are 100 heavier than the regular 9 inches known in Lagos. This is half Hollow and half solid as shown in the pictures below

We have started back filling and preparing ground beam concrete work and reinforcement

Please throw more light on the choice of the foundation design. What's the soil condition like? Why the structural introduction of a ground beam? Given your knowledge of the soil condition, do you think there are alternative cost effective foundation designs without the ground beam?

The blocks are really unique. Very effective and practical for hollow blocks.

Thank you for your questions.
The introduction of ground beam was as a result of historical background of the place. However, once it's ascertained that the land is good enough without ground movement and fast settlement, you may not need ground beam. Example of this was a two story we did in Uratta Owerri. There was no need for ground beam then because the soil was strong.

The foundation still remains pad and strip. The only new thing is the beam.
