FG urged to expedite action on S-East roads

ENUGU–THE South East Governors’ Forum at the weekend urged the Federal Government to to deal expeditiously with the reconstruction of federal roads in the zone especially the Enugu-Abakaliki Road; Enugu-Onitsha Expressway; 9th Mile-Markurdi; and Enugu- Port Harcourt Expressway among others.

These roads, the governors noted, are the critical arteries for vehicular movement within the South East and between the area and other geopolitical zones of the country.

They expressed regrets that these important roads had become death-traps as several auto accidents occur on regular basis claiming the lives of travellers.

In a communique issued at the end of their meeting in Enugu, the South East governors also condemned last Friday killing of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP gubernatorial candidate and other persons in Borno State.
They however charged the Federal Government to “exhaustively investigate” the unfortunate incident and ensure that those behind the bloody incident were exposed and prosecuted.

The communique which was signed by Chairman of the forum and Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, appealed to the Federal Government to direct accelerated work on erosion sites in the South East zone.
The governors wished ailing Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu now undergoing treatment in United Kingdom quick recovery.

Obi disclosed that the communique was a product of an exhaustive deliberations on matters affecting the geopolitical zone especially the state of federal projects sited in the area.

BTW, its a good thing that the SE govs. are always coming together to deliberate on issues of regional interests and i applaud them for that cos its a significant departure from the previous govs we had. But, they should start penetrating Abuja severely rather than issuing all these nonsense communiques as i don't see how they're likely to help getting things done.
