Most people in Nigeria already know that for anyone to even have a remote chance of being president in 2023, that person must be the presidential candidate of either of the two main parties, APC or PDP. All others parties stand no chance at all whatsoever.

While most people in the South believe that power should rotate from North to South after Buhari completes his 8 years in 2023, they may not know that APC and PDP have the exclusive right to zone their Presdential ticket wherever they want.

It is an open secret that Atiku is still nursing his life long ambition to be President of Nigeria and it was recently reported that Atiku's son said that his father is consulting on that matter. Atiku remains by far the biggest heavyweight politician in PDP and is likely to be the party's Presidential candidate come 2023. Atiku is also likely to choose his running mate from the SE/SS area where his party is strongest in the South, and probably an Igbo man, perhaps Peter Obi again.

This will make it impossible for APC to choose anyone from the South to be its presidential candidate as it is well known that the North is not yet ready to give up power to the south. Anyone thinking that a Northerner can like a Southerner more than a fellow Northerner is kidding themselves. It will be political suicide for APC to make either Tinubu or Osinbajo its presidential candidate in 2023 because both men will fail miserably in the SE/SS area as well as in the North against Atiku. This will leave APC with no alternative than to field a Northerner to counter Atiku in the North.

APC and PDP will both field Northern candidate in 2023.

Sorry the APC are not unsecured.
The political permutation is wrong.
Jonathan from the South won Buhari in 2011 same with obasanjo so nothing like northern supremacy here.

Only self centered folks thinks the North should retain the presidency.
Every real Northerners beleives in fairness and equity.

Come 2023 Gods willing, Amaechi would be our most preferred APC candidate..

There is nothing like fairness and equity anymore, GEJ breached that gentleman agreement, its null and void with regards to SS and SE!! We dont recognise anymore... that's why we are fully backing Atiku and co to contest under PDP

As for APC, we will only support Tinubu because of the soft spot and respect we have for him, not zoning related

You are correct to certain extent.

I have always said it that once PDP fields Atiku/Obi again, two things will have:

1) It's either CPC block of APC pretentious relinquish the presidential slot to the ANC block of the APC (in keeping to the initial agreement of the funding fathers of the party), and turn around to back their brother from the north being fielded by the opposition PDP. In this case, PDP wins indisputably and randomly, irrespective of whoever APC fields from possibly Sw.

2) The second scenario is just as you rightly predicted, APC Fielding a northerner to neutralize Atiku's chances there by going against the secret but unwritten agreement they had at the formation of the party. In this case, the election will be dicy. Both parties will not find it easy but two thing are also involved here:
a. either ACN feels betrayed and pulls out of the APC (openly or secretly) giving way for PDP's eventual victory at the polls or
b. the old politics of tribalism by late Awolowo would play out where ACN block though disappointed by APC,would rather swallow the ugly pill and see to the victory of APC's candidate just to spite the tribe that produced the VP candidate of PDP for the election.

u don't know anything about politics n it's obvious u haven't been checking d political permutations in Nigeria since 1999....if u check d trend u will realise it is rotational n d North hasn't have it back to back b4,north are comfortable once they become d president for 8 years n VP for another 8 years

check this out

obj/Atiku........north as VP
Yar'Adua/Jonathan.......north as president
Jonathan/Sambo......north as VP
buhari/osinbajo......north as president

can u see the trend n how it goes,so as it stay now it's obvious d North will want to b VP now so they can have d presidency back again

south/north......north as VP

so any party that can reasonably do this with reasonable politicians will have it come 2023 so the Atiku/obi is dead on arrival cos the north knows d implications n they can't afford to b out of presidency for 16 years if south later get it

For atiku to gather such amount of votes in 2019 against incumbent president supposed tell yorubas somtin if they are wise.

Some yorubas are even assuming that without north that they can gather enough votes from middle belt... Who even told them that any Yoruba man can win atiku or gather more votes than atiku in middle belt?..

You are talking about the days when we had only one dominant party, PDP, which decided where power would go. Things have since changed. You dont seem to understand. There is a movement currently going in the North for the North to retain power beyond 2023. ACF and the Northern Elders Forum have already backed that move. There no single Northerner or Northern group that has backed any power shift to the South come 2023. It is only a blind man that cannot see that the North wants to retain power beyond 2023 and PDP can see it too. That is why PDP is most likely going to field Atiku. Should APC field a Southerner, you will witness the North desert APC for PDP that allows them to keep power.

Even if PDP is to field a northener in 2023, it shouldn't be Atiku. He has never been a choice candidate in the north. If you check out his performance under ACN in 2007 and under pdp in 2019, you'll see that he's not that popular up north. In 2019 for instance, atiku/obi won 5 out of 5 in southeast, 6 out of 6 in southsouth, and even with the influence of osinbajo, tinubu, fasola, fayemi and the rests in southwest, atiku/obi won in ondo and oyo and had more than 40% votes in lagos and osun. But as usual, the same atiku was rejected by his people in the north as he could not even clear 5 out of the 19 northern states. Charity they say begins at home. People like lamido, tambuwal and kwankwaso are more endeared to the northerners than atiku.

In my opinion after Buhari Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is more popular than most Northern politicians including Atiku Abubakar . If the PDP should present him against any APC candidate it's a sure win for the PDP

Even Atiki himself doesn't have this level of confidence.

How old are you sir?

In a democratic election, only party can win at a time and those who don't win today can win tommorow . This has been established in many Countries, including Nigeria.
Why are you taking as if the 2023 election is the end of all elections with a death or life outcome?

Of course, but it wont matter how many people contest for the Presidency of Nigeria, only the two contestants of the two main political parties, APC and PDP have any realistic chances of winning. The two main political parties are already plotting their moves towards 2023 and they know that the North will be the decider. That is why both will select presidential candidates from the North

Between APC and PDP, the party that chooses its presidential candidate from the South will lose to the one that chooses from the North. The only way power can rotate back to the South after Buhari has completed his 8 years in 2023 is if APC and PDP field Southern candidates, and PDP is not likely to do so because it will most likely lose to APC

You have raised a point shared by some people.
It is better to wait for the election and see how this theory will be tested. This is one of the ways that democracy can be further entrenched in the country, by testing and retesting different permutations and combinations.
