Promises again...

How fake art thou this time?

Fg may revive it but it's Nigerians that will run it down..... the workers will come late, take bribes, cleaning staff won't do a great job. Before you know it, the whole thing is run down once again. This is because Nigeria and Nigerians have a barbaric culture.

I don't have a problem with National theatre but I can use 25 Billion Naira to build 50 small clinics where people can be treated for small things. Like High BP management, diabetes management, wound management(gunshot, snake bites, home accidents)

25 Billion is $68m. They can use it to invest $2k on 34,000 youths. I will search for 34,000 crazy smart thirsty young lads that just graduated from higher institutions. Train them on E-commerce opportunities. If 20% of those youths (6800) turns out good and they are selling/dropshipping different products across the globe, they can be making $1.5k per month, that's $18k/year. If Govt collects 30% tax, that's $5400/youth. $5400 * 6800 = $37m. It's a win-win.

There are several more productive ways to spend 25 Billion Naira. I think we have much more urgent needs than fixing the National theatre.

Here lies the problem with most of us. We keep believing the amount spent on a particular project is better spent in other avenues and in most cases, we make these conclusions because we fail to see the bigger picture. Also, spending money on this project can also co-exist with making funds available for the other things you believe the money can also be used for. You can't also tell private investors interested in the Creative industry where best they should spend their money on. Their interest is on revamping entertainment through this edifice, another set of private investors can also choose to make investments in the health or education sector.

25 billion? It's better he used that money and sponsor that 10,000 people in business. That way, they will be able to create more jobs than that figure. Does he have an idea how many unemployed youths we have in Nigeria? This is just another loot and nothing more. For business ideas, visit www.bloghomies.com

Think of the multiplier long term effect and not just short term. If this same government had decided to share monies to the 10,000 people as you said, same you will come and say they're only going to give it to their cronies and it wont reach those that really needs it.

Chai. Nigerians

Now that the theatre business is crashing worldwide, and others are improvising to stay relevant

Highlights of the first phase, according to plans put on the ground, include the upgrade of the theatres (the main halls and cinema halls, conference and banquet halls, press hall and the bar); installation of new seats, upgrade of the sanitary facilities, installation of lifts, acoustics and specialist lightings, as well as replacement of the air conditioning, lighting and plumbing.

Phase II will involve the development of purpose-built clusters to provide world-class facilities for Nigeria’s Creative Industry, with the clusters having four hubs: Fashion, Music, Film and Information and Technology (IT) hubs.

The creative clusters will be supported by other facilities, including multi-storey parking to accommodate 1,000 cars, a Visitors’ Welcome Centre which will house commercial and retail facilities, as well as administration and management offices

The highlighted are the add-ons so this project when it sees the light of the day will be a beehive of activities. So it's not just going to remain a theatre

This money would have been used to attract foreign doctors abroad to return and work in Nigeria.

The national theatre used to be so cool, with several theatre halls. I rmmber my secondary school took us on an excursion to go watch one of our js3 english literature plays on stage.

I loved that story but cant remember the name of the book. Twin sisters seperated by their parents & then they met in school.
Good times!

There were many shops on the theatre premises too. Hopefully they upgrade it to the west-end level of theatrical performances. With moving stages, lightning & sound effects. They should involve bolanle austen peters terraculture & dare art alades livenation too.

This is a PPP sir. It's the private investors through the CBN bringing in their money and not the Nigerian government.

So the FG cant decide to tell the private investors how they want to spend their money or which sector (Health or Entertainment) they want to invest in.

CACOVID is doing something about our health in Nigeria. Those ones can use the remaining money left to attract those foreign doctors abroad to return and work in Nigeria.

I love this.

Since we are good at throwing figures around without asking the how, let's see how about 20,000 jobs?

How about 100,000 jobs?

How about a million jobs?

I think the last is more believable than the 10,000 jobs he mentioned seeing as we are a nation of gullible people where no one bothers to ask relevant questions.

1 million jobs period.

You are right. I initially thought Govt is sponsoring the project. It will be nice if Govt can make other important sectors attractive to foreign investors. A good health insurance scheme will make the health sector attractive.

Yea true. Though Nigeria has NHIS and Lagos state has its own health insurance scheme, I really don't know why Nigerians are not adopting this in droves. When there's a lack of mass adoption of existing schemes on ground, private investors wont be moved to assist the health sector.

This COVID has just turned a blessing in disguise as there has been some improvements with respect to revamping our health sector. Hopefully, the momentum is sustained Post-COVID.

That N25b can create more than that number of jobs Nationwide. what are they upgrading??

Just take N5m per state, assuming N200m is used, & create ITF training hubs on different skills including production. Use the remaining N800m for maintenance & welfare. The N25b wl go for at least N25yrs, and if u're training 1000 people per state every year, 36 states is 36,000 people, x abt 20yrs
is 720,000 + skilled Nigerians
