When A Christian Backslides, does God Remember All The Whole Sins From Beginning? by KDK(m): 11:40am On Feb 06, 2011
A friend of mine asked a question, If MR A has 230 sins before he gave his life to christ, then at being born again, he is forgiven and as such, the sin count goes to zero. Now if Mr A backslides, will God count Mr A's sin from 230 hence going to 231 (plus the new one) or will God just count it from 1 like a fresh sinner.
True christians in the house please help. Atheist, U can do gud by staying away. Tanx.

@KDK

The latter (i.e. count from 1 like a fresh sinner)

"Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature:

old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new
" -  2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

I am sure a great deal of Alaba traders are using this SIN RESET approach in their business. I get there early in the morning and they refuse to open shop cos they are repenting and praying to God for customers, when God delivers the customers the outright shank the bjezuz out of them and RESET the counter the next day. angry

It depends! There are those who The LORD GOD choses from all of sinful mankind, (For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23), to forgive & show unearned, unmerited mercy on, in HIS infinite wisdom & magnanimity, through The Lord Jesus Christ from the very beginning of this world until the end,  because The Lord Jesus Christ is the great I AM, ("Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am." John 8:58),  The "mighty GOD" (Isaiah 9:6), "Alpha & Omega",  Revelation 1:8, Rev 22:13.

Those in the Lord Jesus Christ who have obtained mercy & are covered by HIS blood in the sight of GOD/ The Father/ HIM are these - 'Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity[sin], and in whose spirit there is no guile." Psalm 32: 1-2. These are HIS saints/elect/sons in The Lord Jesus Christ.  Every other human being who has not received mercy is still under GOD's righteous wrath for sin.  "Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:4

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" Romans 6:23

If one is truly a son of GOD in The Lord Jesus Christ, The SON of the Living GOD,  and thus truly born again, then "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." 1 John 3:9

Note: if one is truly born again, of "water and the Holy Spirt" (John 3:5),  not physical water (1 Peter 3:21), and not through man,  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:11-13

then one will sin less and less and GOD will chasten/correct so that one's life mirrors The Lord Jesus Christ's more & more,  thus we become more and more obedient to the Bible/Word of GOD and love to obey GOD.
"For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." Hebrews 12:6

BUT!,  we must be careful, because
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:4

So,
John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments. (not to become saved, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" Ephesians 2:8 - but because one is actually saved, and is in fact indwelt by The Holy Spirit of Truth & grace, & Faith of The Lord Jesus, and loves GOD). "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:" Romans 8:16

John 14:21
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

John 15:10
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

------
Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Some Christians claim that they are sinless since Christ had abolished their sins once and for all. They claim their higher knowledge is sufficient enough to lift them above the realm of sin.  Christians still sin because sometimes we either unintentionally or thru weakness of the flesh live in the old nature. A true christian will acknowledge this occurence and trust in Christ to take the sin away.

Romans 7:18-23,25
And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is , in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't. I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. I have  discovered this principle of life - that when I want to do what is right, I inevitablly do what is wrong. I love God's law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.

Vs 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is in my mind I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.

However to maintain continual relationship with God, we need to confess our sins to him. Forgiveness and cleansing are guaranteed because God is faithful to his promises and because he acts on the basis of his justice. Christ death for our sins fulfills God's justice and acquits us of our guilt.

But we are also warned against sinning "brazenly" and "deliberately

Hebrew 6:4-6
For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened, those who have experience the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come; and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross again and holding him up to public shame.

These are people who had heard the word of God preached and had seen its effects. They had witnessed signs and wonders when they heard the gospel. Such attitude is reminiscent of the wilderness wanderers who turned away from obeying God and fell in the desert. These people have repented before, but had no fruit from their repentance. When people turn their back on Christ, such people are marked for destruction. The bible says they are nailing CHRIST again on the cross. Crucifixion back in NT days was the ultimate instrument of rejections and humiliation and brought about public shame. Christ said those that deny him publicly will be denied publicly in heaven.

CONCLUSION : WARNING BRETHEN

Hebrew 10:26-30
Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth. there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins. There is only the terrible expectation of God's judgement and the raging fire that will consume his enemies. For ANYONE who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on  the testimony of 2 or 3 witnesses. Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to us. For we know the one who said "I WILL TAKE REVENGE. I WILL PAY THEM BACK". He also said, "The Lord will judge his own people"

Vs 31 even warns us further that "It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God"

Muslims, athiest, mockers and believers have to be aware of their deeds. The eye of the Lord is on us.

well you start afresh, however a backslidden person has wiped his soul clean and so 1000 more demons jump in there immediately LOL ( nothing like a nicely cleaned out house eh ? ). so within a week he will have committed not just 230 sins but 100000000 sins grin so either way, he cant win. he is worse off as a backslider. it is better never to have found Christ than to be a backslider

Good question! The count starts from 1 again; but that doesn't matter because if he dies in his sins, he won't make Heaven!

Ezekiel 18:21-24 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: [and] not that he should return from his ways, and live?

24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, [and] doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked [man] doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

It will not count again because when you repent and confess your sins,God not only forgives,He forgets about it completely. He can never go back to sins that He has forgotten.
