The identities of the policemen revealed were Oparemi Goke and Ogunyemi Mujeeb, according to the police.

However, according to reports, the two newly recruited policemen were in pursuit of hoodlums who were suspected weed smokers, when one of the suspects dived into the water at Awerintu river, Oke Eketu, and the policemen also followed them suit, as they were unlucky and unfortunate to come out alive as they drowned and were immerged into the mud.
