Question: "What is the difference between faith and trust?"

Answer: Faith and trust have similar meanings, and often people will use the words interchangeably. Even Merriam-Webster defines faith as “belief and trust in and loyalty to God.” For most people there is no practical difference between faith and trust; to them, the two are synonymous. Any differences that exist are very fine.

One difference is simply grammatical. Trust can be either a noun or a verb, depending on context. As a noun, trust means “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something”; as a verb, it means “to rely on the truthfulness or accuracy of,” “to believe,” “to commit or place in one’s care,” or “to place confidence.” Faith is always a noun (except in cases of its archaic use as a verb).

In Scripture, faith is defined as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). In other words, faith involves trusting in something you cannot explicitly prove. Faith is inseparable from trust; it’s the confidence that God can and will do what He says in His Word. Faith includes both intellectual assent to something and trust in it. So we believe something to be true, and we also place our trust in it—we rely on it. Faith recognizes that a chair is designed to support the person who sits on it, and trust demonstrates the faith by actually sitting in the chair.

Faith without trust is not faith. Belief without reliance is empty. Many people believe certain facts about Jesus Christ, but knowing those facts to be true is not what the Bible means by “faith.” The biblical definition of faith requires trust in—a commitment to—the facts.

An example of the relationship between faith and trust is a trust-fall. You have faith that your friends will catch you even though your back is turned to them. You believe they will not let you hit the ground. The act of falling—as the name of the exercise implies—is trust. You demonstrate the faith you have in your friends. Trust in God is a core aspect of biblical faith.

I respectfully disagree!

By the Bible, the Use and Meaning of faith is "Knowing and Understanding".

And after Knowing and Understanding, Proper "Trust" therefore Follows!

It is not empty mere belief but Action Based on Identified and Identifiable Truths Established and Grounded by the Lord Himself!

knowing is not the same as faith or trust.
The only knowledge that leads to faith is the knowledge of God and his word, even that is not faith itself.

Faith is Believe that God is Everything you have and surrounded with. Like Adam & Eve were given a Garden full of Everything. They should always believe, that is have Faith in God for Everything.

Trust is Hope and aspiration that God is capable and always ready to fulfil His Promises to us.

Faith is a genuine trust in God. You may trust a man with a thing or task while having a doubt about his/her ability to deliver. With faith, your belief is unwavering.

Christian faith: Belief without evidence, which is insane really.
Trust: Confidence in something, which is usually backed by some evidence.

An example to clear Doubt:-. Adam & Eve lost Faith, and Disbelieved God when they disobeyed His Instructions and ate the forbidden Fruit. They lost Hope and Trust when, instead of regretting and repenting and searching for God anxiously to report themselves and praying for forgiveness before God found them hiding, the two reclusive Parents Lost it. Don't worry. Jesus Christ, THE FAITH AND THE HOPE, GOD OF PEACE AND GOD IN LOVE HAS RETURNED ALL WE LOST IN ADAM BACK TO US IN JESUS NAME.

HAPPY SUNDAY.

What is knowledge? Is it not knowing? Is knowledge of medicine/engineering not knowing of medicine or engineering?

So also is knowledge of God as you said, is Knowing of God!

Knowing of God brings Trust in God just as Knowing of your doctor or mechanic makes you trust your doctor or mechanic.

And Trust is Reliance on Knowing or Knowledge!

That is what I am trying to explain to them and show them that faith is based on Knowings Practically and Trust Always Follows Knowledge.

But they are still stuck up in the Definition and have not come out to put it in use to see that in Practical Use and Action it is based on Solid Evidence!

After they have finished doing this for years they would then come up to say many shits.

Faith recognizes that a chair is designed to support the person who sits on it, and trust demonstrates the faith by actually sitting in the chair.
First, contrary to what many may like to believe, Hebrews 11 vs 1 does not contain a definition of the word faith . Rather what the writer does in the context is attempts a figurative comparison of faith with the evidence/substance, the promises of God, that come as a result of ir. Faith itself is not defined in the context of that passage. For this reason, the word faith, in the context, is used in reference to efforts made by such a person as Abraham while pointing out the evidence/benefits that resulted from such effort. undecided

God Himself explained what the word faith means in Genesis 26 vs 5 when He pointed out that the reason why He made a promise to Abraham had to do with the fact that Abraham lived his life in submission and obedience of His, God's, teachings and commandments - Faith. God gave that as the one and the only reason why He made Abraham His friend. This offer we observe Jesus Christ makes with all those of His followers who will do as He says - John 15 vs 9 -14 — those who will submit to and obey His teachings and commandments in the Kingdom of God. So, there you have it. Faith refers to living one's life in continuous submission(trust) and obedience to God's commandments and teachings, and in our case, in Jesus Christ. This definition is observed as being used in the Old Testament as well as in the New Covenant by Jesus Christ Himself. undecided

Trust means submission/acceptance of the Truth of God, God's Law, as is. undecided

Faith refers to the living of one's life in continuous Trust/submission/acceptance and Obedience to the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ, God's Law and Truth in the Kingdom of God. Faith cannot exist without Trust, nor can it exist without obedience(works) which is what James said in his letter. undecided

Faith in fact refers to the living of one's life in submission/Trust and obedience to the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ. Faith cannot exist without Trust. undecided
