Nigerian States Financial/economic Ranking: Lagos No.1 $33 Billion Dollars! by DeeJay20: 12:20pm On Feb 11, 2011 |
Nigerian States Financial Ranking: Lagos No.1 $33 Billion Dollars!!! Was just checking some GDP Economic figures for some states as was looking at investment area's. Just thought i post this list. Its breaks the states down by GDP (Purchasing Power Parity). It looking at the volume of economic ativity, Not too suprising that Lagos and Rivers state are No 1 & 2. Note, I gonna do a check for the Capital Expenditure figures for each state and this will give a true and fair view of Economic strength of the states. The Reason why i say that the capital exp may give a better view of the economic activity is that take instance a state like Jigawa, its GDP is $2.9 Billion Dollars, But it spent $500 Million dollars on road works last year alone! Rank State GDP (PPP$ Billion Dollars) 1 Lagos State 33.6 2 Rivers State 21 3 Delta State 16.7 4 Oyo State 16.1 5 Imo State 14.2 6 Kano State 12.3 7 Edo State 11.8 8 Akwa Ibom 11.1 9 Ogun State 10.4 10 Kaduna State 10.3 11 Cross River State 9.2 12 Abia State 8.6 13 Ondo State 8.4 14 Osun State 7.2 15 Benue State 6.8 16 Anambra State 6.7 17 Katsina State 6 18 Niger State 6 19 Borno State 5.1 20 Plateau State 5.1 21 Sokoto State 4.8 22 Bauchi State 4.7 23 Kogi State 4.6 24 Adamawa State 4.5 25 Enugu State 4.3 26 Bayelsa State 4.3 27 Zamfara State 4.1 28 Kwara State 3.8 29 Taraba State 3.3 30 Kebbi State 3.2 31 Nassarawa State 3 32 Jigawa State 2.9 33 Ekiti State 2.8 34 Ebonyi State 2.7 35 Gombe State 2.5 36 Yobe State 2 - Federal Capital Territory 5 Total (PPP) 289 Source - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_GDP |

Delta state will soon overtake Rivers and Lagos. We have been growing impressively and have moved from number 5 to number 3 in a few short years. Delta no de carry last. kpata kpata na draw. |

macjive01: It was complied in 2009, i need to do more research ie on capital expenditure as it paints a more true picture, Those Northern states have some ridiculous capital expenditure projects |

macjive01: @bolded.Not a bit of surprise to me that Imo and Abia are ahead in GDP but remember there are other index needed to make a conclusion.Abia is ahead if all the index including industrialisation is included. |

Per capita rankings are more useful for the sake of comparison. Lagos will always be #1 if you look at raw GDP, simply because it is far more populated than the other states, while having a very solid economic base (essentially, a plurality of the finance, manufacturing, shipping etc in Nigeria is in or around Lagos.) A bit sad how low Bayelsa is ranked, despite all the oil wealth at its disposal. |

eku_bear: That is because, despite Nigeria's first oil well being discovered there, the country and its military regimes never sought to develop the place. The shame is so great that Bayelsa only got connected to the national electricity grid in 2006, yet the state easily produces some 40% of Nigeria's forex. That is how disgraceful Nigeria's parasitic behaviour has been toward that state. We live in a wicked country where the parasite scoffs and spits on the victim. |

What the hell does that have to do with anything? One can certainly argue that Bayelsa should be receiving far more money that it should, that the rest of Nigeria sponges off of it. But this is an entirely separate issue from the state frittering away the still considerable amounts of money it does get. Again, two separate and distinct issues. I hope at your real job, you don't use the excuse that you are underpaid to piss away all your money on gambling. . . "I wouldn't be so frivolous with my money if they paid me more!" |
