2023: Lagos APC Leaders To ‘Plead’ 2nd Term For Sanwo-Olu by bolaayenimo: 7:18am On Aug 12, 2020
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Even though he is yet to complete the second year in his four-year term, some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have begun moves to facilitate a second term for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2023, Daily Independent has gathered.

A credible source informed our correspondent that there was an unwritten agreement that Sanwo-Olu, who is a Christian, will only serve one term in order to complete the four-year term which former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode began in 2015.

He added that by the time Sanwo-Olu completes his tenure in 2023, the two terms allocated for a governor of Christian denomination would have been complete.

“If you recall, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who became governor after the return of democratic rule in 1999 is a Muslim and he served for two terms between 1999 and 2007.

“His successor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), another Muslim, also completed two terms in office from 2007 to 2015.

“Before the expiration of Fashola’s tenure, there was a serious and fierce clamour by some religious leaders of Christians in Lagos that the next governor of the state must be a Christian in order to ensure a balance among the two prominent religions in the state.

“Some well-meaning Islamic leaders also supported the position, saying it will give the people of the other faith a sense of belonging.

“It was a very sensitive issue and if the APC leadership in Lagos had refused to listen to the demand, there would have been protest votes from Lagosians against APC. Many would have voted for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which fielded Jimi Agbaje, a Christian then.

“That clamour was what led to the emergence of Ambode in 2015. Unfortunately, Ambode incurred the wrath of the powers that be in Lagos APC and he couldn’t secure a second term. That was what brought Sanwo-Olu as governor to complete the remaining four years that Ambode couldn’t finish.”

When our correspondent contacted several APC leaders, they declined to comment on the issue saying, “It is very sensitive and may ruffle political feathers in the state”.

One of the leaders who asked not to be named, however, said while the theory behind Sanwo-Olu’s emergence may be true, the idea of one term for Lagos governors was mouthed during the Fashola administration so that the position can go round because there are many qualified people in the party.

He, however, said based on Sanwo-Olu’s sterling performance since coming to office, especially given the way he demonstrated great leadership in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, leaders of the party, including himself, will be willing to plead a second term for him when the times comes.

“If you look at Sanwo-Olu, since coming to office, he has made governance his focus while leaving politics to those who assisted him to office. He is not known to be floating any political group or association, all he focuses on is good governance for Lagosians.

“His management of the COVID-19 and other issues such as security and infrastructure has won him applause from both within and outside the country, even from the PDP. So, 2023 is still far away.

“He is yet to serve out two years from his first term but when that time comes, if he continues in that fine pattern, leaders like me will come out and plead for a second term for him”, he said.

The writer is mad for saying two terms is allocated for a Christian governor. Is Lagos governed on the basis of religion? Are Yoruba politicians even religious? They go to the Church, Mosque and Traditionalist. Most of them tie juju round their waist. Useless and lazy miscreant writer.

The truth is tinubu don't have the luxury of time to try what he did to ambode to the present governor ....... APC is too divided right now ...

The reason he removed ambode was so that he won't have a second term Lagos governor dragging presidential ambition with him

Tinubu know he is being watched by factions in APC and PDP

But if he can ask Nigeria to print more money then he can be so dumb to attempt it

Except tinubu makes a deal he has lost everything ...it's just a matter of time

If only Ambode was strong enough, he could move to PDP and go for the ticket...

Though they would definitely come for him with a "Funsho William's scenerio" because of the clout he would garner... but he would pull through, which would even boost his chances.

- The people have seen his works..
- He already has friends on the corridors of power and many more beyond his wildest imaginations would support from the closet.
- "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"..
- He has partially fought Godfatherism..
- He did for Lagos in 4 years, what no other Governor till date has done except Lateef Jakande..
- He was delibrately damaged politically without reason..
- He could be the next living "Funsho williams"..

Well, if wishes were horses... beggars would ride.

I agree with him. No need reading your trash slowly because you don't know Jack about Lagos politics.
When Ambode was picked in 2015, Christian leaders went to his church to verify if indeed he is Christian and did not just attending the church because he wants to be governor. It was until they were convinced, they started supporting him

Sanwo-Olu should be given another change to serve the people of Lagos, though the last experience could make some Muslims demand the unwritten agreement. Nevertheless, a reasonable mind and anyone without public dust exercising in his or her brains would easily agree for the governor's second term with or without his religious denomination. Let's give him more work to do since he has got to do them.
God bless Lagos

ABA is arguably the most planned city in Nigeria after enugu and Abuja ....

ABA can stand shoulder to shoulder with it abiokuta and ibadan ..and yet it's not a capital has never been a capital .......

Delusion as to be your problem if you think PDP that ruined Nigeria 4 solid 16 years, introduced endemic looting, boko haram, banditry, herdsmen, wiped out Odi. Zaki biam n Co had reasonable lunatics in power.

Is that why Lagos Ibadan express way same PDP can not execute 4 16yrs is now over 70% completed ? Abuja Kano Kaduna PH Lagos airport terminal completed. How about the 2nd Niger Bridge ? Sycophants like you need your demented head beaten blue black with rock solid Plank to ensure you dezisted from coming on NL to make foolish comment. As bad as APC is PDP will forever remain a bigger disaster.

Viicfuntop:
This isn’t funny again. You know what will be eh stupid? If APC wins in Edo state, then Nigeria is really gone for good. I mean we understood first term of Apc. Everyone saw how their lives turned around. For Buhari to win a second time, amazed me. See I can’t do more than this. None of you have the balls to say it. Pdp was 10 times better than this government and before you give us the crap about how they are all the same; Guys, they probably were, but they had reasonable people take up the mantle of leading the country. There was no nepotism. They actually had qualified people in every positions. So Edo, you can choose to continue to suffer because if you vote in Apc, you will “enjoy” for the first few months but after that, what’s next?

Are you really ready to sacrifice the future of your children for a mere Peanut or because you do not have the balls to take your future back? If any of you have had the opportunity to travel out or let’s say South Africa, you will hate how stagnant and backward we are. So please Edo people, take back your balls in this forth coming election. Enough is Enough. Thank you.

This was intended for the new license fee ride companies, but it led to this up here. So please, be tired of this government. No country has probably had it worst as Nigeria. Youths, join politics now. We that can afford to should Join. You can’t be a president now but when the time comes, you can show to the public you have been in this for a very long time. I can’t even say anything about the guy sentenced to death for blasphemy. Guys, I tell you that no matter how much a government try to rig an election, if there about 80% opposing, don’t you think it would be hard to manipulate such a figure if everyone can clearly see, they have no one voting for them? I am so emotional now and we should all be. This government has literally “killed” us and this country.

#POWER MUST CHANGE HANDS IN EDO AND 2023# Thanks for reading
