RELIGION AS CAUSE OF SET BACK IN NIGERIA DEVELOPMENT

Religion can be said to be the beleif in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

Religion can also be said to be a particular system of faith and worship and pursuit of intrest followed with great devotion.

Nigeria as a soverign nation have different types of religion practices by the people, but there are three (3) major ones,namely;
CHRISTAIN RELIGION
ISLAMIC RELIGION
TRADITIONAL RELIGION
All the above mentioned religions all deal in moral controlling and as a result of that create different orientation and perspectives in the behavioural pattern of its adeherents towards other different religious adeherents.

Nigeria as a nation seems to believe more on their religious orientation so deep to the extent that their leaders instead of constructing business centres to boost the economy and also create jobs for the youth would prefer to build a religion centre for its citizen to go and worship and pray to God to create jobs for them thereby setting the Nigeria nation economy backwards and down.

Many Nigeria youth today have grown up to blame their Uncles and Aunties in the village for the cause of their downfall without holding their political leaders and invariably their Religious leaders who had dumbed them down with Religious beliefs and had scattered the country space with Religious houses rather than industry and all other propellants of developments

Understand this. Most crisis taking down at Southern Kaduna is pratically because of religious difference; for if these encroachers understand that they were one people before Religious inclinings, the Nigeria space would have progressed beyond religious boundaries that was brought us by Arab and Europeans.

The saddest part is,Nigerians don't fight for their rights, but will always fight for their God. This is no exaggeration, a man has his life placed on the palms of Gov. Ganduje of Kano state for he to assent his neck on the noose for Blasphemy of Allah as pronounced by a Sharia Court.

Well, his life hangs on the balance of any day the Kano people are able to put more pressure on the Governor to decide his death.

Any Nation that is being governed by religious fanatics as leaders would be in a great bondage as is pratical with almost all Africa nations.

Is this not why we re still miles backwards In he scheme of things world over, because a child who should be taught how to think for himself in difficult situation to get off it is taught to pray for solutions, rather than squarely facing his problems.

For example, our Federal Characters have been monopolized as Religious Character;everybody is fighting for Religious dominace instead of industrialization dominace that profits all and sundry.

The word “ DEVELOPMENT” as defined by Cambridge Dictionary “The process in which someone or something grows or changes and become more advance”. Its hightime Nigeria citizens free ourselves from the religion bondage and face the reality of putting our religion behind us when it comes to developping the nation. It must not be religion and tribe, for a nation like Nigeria to move forward we have work together in developping the country which can only be achieved by dropping our religious differences and tow towards the way of developing our society to be better.

Yes ! this reminds me of christopher hitchens book "God is not great; How religion poisons everything

it is not only nigeria that religion causes problem, but all over the world e.g

1) serbia, croatia war
2) kurds, sunni and shia in iraq
3)september 11
4) when ayotollah khomeni wanted to kill salman rushdie
5) the war in bombay
6) protestant and catholic fight in Belfast

religion still causes harm in terms of health e.g
When northern nigeria decided not to take the polio vaccine; Nigeria was almost becoming a polio free contry. But some nonentity decided to spread rumours amongs the people ; this made us roll the boulders up the mountain again

you need to here the catholics response to HIV&AIDS. It is better to have aids than to use contraceptives grin grin

looking at the jewish people and circumcision; thats too barbaric

Last but not the least religion does not make anyone a better person!

thank you
