2023: Concede presidency to South-East, says Umeh

By Unini Chioma -August 31, 2020

Former national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh said for the sake of unity of Nigeria, the South East should produce the president of Nigeria come 2023.

He pointed that the zone should not be denied the opportunity on historical basis regarding the Nigerian civil war.

Umeh told reporters at the reopening of the Enugu airport that all the zones in the South have produced leadership of the country except the South East.

He said: “It is wrong for the other parts of the country that have provided leadership to vie for it now. For example the South-West had Obasanjo who served 8 years. Their son is also Vice President now. The South-South have produced the president through Jonathan.

“South East is the remaining part of Southern Nigeria yet to take its slot. So on that basis we thank the president for the work he had done on the Enugu Airport and other infrastructures in the South East – roads and second Niger Bridge. But none is more important than closing the gap by making the South East produce the best president for Nigeria in 2023. Let’s not play politics with that.

“Somebody had told me that the APC is weak in the South-East. And I asked the person what was the strength of the PDP in South-West in 1999 when Obasanjo became the president. The PDP had no councilor in the whole of Southwest. Alliance for Democracy had everything in the Southwest. But due to the exigency to accommodate the Southwest in the presidency, Obasanjo was elected even though he lost in his polling unit in his local government.”

He posited that the situation in the Southeast now is better than then in the Southwest.

He said: “How much more now that the APC is controlling a state in the Southeast, in Imo. And they have others elected as senators and House of Representative members. That argument is no longer tenable.

“They need to make it a policy that the Southeast should provide the leadership of Nigeria in 2023. It is not that we will die if don’t produce the president of Nigeria in 2023. But it is for the country to be truly united. What goes around should come around.

“And we have intellectuals, technocrats and the best people that can provide quality leadership to Nigeria if given the opportunity. So all parts of Nigeria should support the Southeast to produce the president in 2023. Across all the political parties, let there be no contest. The way they did in 1999 where Alliance for Democracy and APP produced Olu Falae and PDP produced Obasanjo. You can see that in 1999 the Southwest were the only people that contested for the presidency in Nigeria. So this is not a new thing. It’s been there. We have antecedents.

“The Southeast has capable people in abundance to lead Nigeria. The need to concede the presidency to the Southeast unassailable at this point and when you are looking for such a material, we have them in abundance.”

Shut up you bigot.

SE retains the highest sympathy for Presidency in 2023. And nothing you and ilks like yourself will do about it. When push comes to shove and it comes to fruition, you and your likes can declare yourselves non-citizens and go on exile if you can't hang the portrait of an Igbo man on your office wall as the president.

With this “pity us” approach of strategy, it will take the Igbos very long time to get their wish.

Nigeria as it is, is very toxic due to the acts and attitude of the Igbos after GEJ lost in 2015 and Atiku’s in 2019. They are not in the good books of the two major ethnic groups in Nigeria at the moment.

Na so. In the heat of 2015 when Boko haram controlled more local governments in Nigeria and calling for an Islamic State, didn't Nigerians elect a sympathizer who said attack on boko haram is an attack on North?

Benue South has these too, and so does Benue state in general or Middle Belt.

Maybe the presidency should be conceded to US.

The truth is, all these talk about concession or rotation wouldn't even come up if we lived in a fair society where everyone gets equal opportunity to prosperity. Everyone knows that as far as ONE OF YOUR OWN is the one pulling the strings, they'd be bias in favour of you.

It is the reason my dad says the clamour for presidency is just a clamour for "rotation of corruption".

This people will never say anything without not mentioning their political master southwest.

Meanwhile all the excuses mr umahi listed above is not concern us here. A Yoruba man will emerge as a president of Nigeria. Even north also aware of that. Let igbo candidate market their products and a Yoruba man market their products.

Nigerian presidency is for Nigerians and Biafran citizens can never and will never sniff Aso Rock. No point arguing with an inferior Biafran man because you already know that you and your low life people are second hand citizens in this country.
Your dream will not come true in 1000 years.

It goes beyond that.
The people plays vital role than just ambition of the political elite.
When a race work towards building bridges with others, it makes the job easier.

Alas, even Ojukwu never won more than anambra state throughout his Armageddonic experience subjected to by his own people.

My greatest surprise is that pdp that they killed their own brother for can't see anything good in them after 21 years of rewardless support.

O di egwu.

you have short term memory. 2015 till now was just online media war. 1967-1970 we fought physical war and carried arms and killed eachother in an official face-off, then soon as we returned to democratic dispensation in 1979, the Vast North voted for shagari that had Igbo man as his deputy and vice president. Not to mention when it is now 50years after the war and mere online trants be an outcaste.
