The meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, the Trade Union Congress, Nigeria Labour Congress and members of the Nigerian Governors Forum to avert the proposed strike slated for September 28, has just ended on an inconclusive note.

After much deliberations, both arms of Labour agreed that the meeting be adjourned till Monday next week to enable the Executives consult with their various organs.

But Ngige believes the meeting was successful and that the strike would be averted.

He told reporters shortly after Thursday’s meeting which held at the Banquet Hall of the State House that government has agreed to a proposal to make provision for palliatives to cushion the effects of the increment in fuel and electricity hike.

Ngige said: “Fruitful meeting. They are going back to their organs. When they consult their organs tomorrow, next tomorrow maybe they will take a new decision.

“We have requested them to shelve the strike. We have appealed to them to shelve the strike.”

“The government side agreed proposals with them on the palliative to cushion the effect of the rise in petroleum products and electricity.”

“The meeting agreed to adjourn to Monday, 3pm we had a fruitful discussion”.

Recall that Labour had settled for an industrial action on September 28,2020 after ratification by the National Executive Council.

While faulting the timing of the increment, they had requested the government to fix the ailing refineries so as to reduce the burden of importation on the country.

They had also bemoaned that the recent increases were ploys to erode the gains of the N30,000 minimum wage recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Incredible!

We honestly don't need a strike or any unnecessary protest.

In Nigeria, democracy gives us every 4 years to decide our fate. We'll always live based on the successive decisions we keep making in this interval. We'll live till 2023 based on the collective decision we made in 2019. I'll never join you in a protest. Democracy gave us that chance in 2019 but you all Atikulated and Sai Babaaaa.

Ngige needs to simply go back to Okija and talk to them about how to make peace since he is making peace with Almajari everyday while his area still sucks

Labour union congress should stop playing us. Which palliative are they talking about and to make the matter worst, 30k minimum wages not yet implemented, and useless labor union don't have any action to take

Abeg the strike should go on. Especially for the hike in electricity. It's so irrational. Almost 50% increase.

Na saka.

This NLC is the most useless NLC I've experienced in my entire lifetime. If they wanted to strike, they'll have done that two or three days after the hike in electricity and fuel price.

Waiting for almost a month, and having useless meetings to collect money is the most barbaric and the highest form of betrayal.

Nigerians are already used to the new petrol price, we're use to the new transport prices, even PHCN have shared their useless new bill that is now more than double the previous bills.

Yet Labor is yet to do anything,

To hell with them and their generation.

Truly speaking, there was a country. Nigerians knew the outcome of the meeting even before the meeting was held. Honestly, labour could best be described as toothless bull dog. They can only bark, but cannot bite. Labour should please tell Nigerians the kind of palliatives the federal government promised to roll out that will cushion the effect on the hike in electricity and petrol. It is even disheartening the more to know that a good number of states are yet to implement the 30k new minimum wage. Shame on NLC and TUC.
