This is a pretty good question for JSS 2.
The normal hour is 48hrs while the overtime is 8hrs.
It is a matter of converting word problem to simultaneous linear equations: do they do that in JSS2 now?

The problem with this topic is not understanding simultaneous equation
It is understanding the terms used in financial arithmetics

Op this is a cheap one the one that normally confuse student must although easy is over time is a time and a half.
My jss2 file is not here I would have shared the questions with you

I got 2.67hrs. I solved with the assumption that a 50hr week means the total ordinary time for the week is 50hrs(eg 10hrs each day, mon-fri). So he's supposed to have earned 45k, since he earned 48.6k. The excess money was due to overtime.

900x + 1350y = 48600
Also

x+ y = 50

Solving simultaneously
x= 42
y= 8.

Hence, overtime = 8hrs

Looking at it from that perspective, it got the equation solved tho.

But sincerely, using such assumption here is quite wrong, the only assumption permissible is to only attach representative letter to the Normal and Overtime hours for deriving their values.
The most efficient method here is to simply translate the word problem into an equation and solve for answers.
