“It makes no sense for oil to be cheaper in Nigeria than in Saudi Arabia.”
-Muhammad Buhari.
But it makes sense that Saudi's minimum wage of $800/N305,194 to our $78.64/ N30,000(which a majority of the states aren't even paying yet)  is just about right.
Saudi Arabia has the lowest reported poverty rate in the Middle East and the 10th lowest poverty rate in the world at 12.7% compared to the poverty capital that we recently became under this Man... 40.1% poverty rate.
Do Saudi depend on petrol the way Nigerians depend on it, do they use it to generate power, power their businesses
The people that write speeches for this man sef.

quote author=SLAP44 post=94490673]It also makes no sense for Nigerians to be living in squalor as compared to Saudi Arabia.

It makes no sense for Nigerians to be harassed daily by security agencies while Saudi people live like kings.

This government is quick to increase the suffering of their people while reducing freedom and benefits of being Nigerians. [/quote] true, imagine comparing Nigeria with Saudi Arabia, do they citizens lives like the way we are living here.

Why will you compare us with S.A. why not look into the living conditions of S.A citizens before the comparison. Who did we offend. God help us all.

Does Nigeria porduce as much oil as Saudi Arabia des...

Saud Arabia produces 11 million barrels of crude a day for 33 million people

Nigeria produces 2 million barrels per day for 200 million people

We are not as rich as Saudi, so we don't have the money to keep fuel at a low pricee like Saudi does.Unless we take loans...like we have been doing.

So, Buhari, unfortunately is right.

N40? That's about 10 cents per litre. You mean to tell me you can buy petrol at 10 cents per litre in the international market?

It this the season of making unreasonable comparisons?

omenka:
Minimum wage naira equivalent of Saudi Arabia is N305, 000, while that of Nigeria is N30, 000 (which hasn't been implemented in most states).

Now, going by the cost of gasoline in Nigeria, the minimum wage of Saudi Arabia can afford a citizen 1, 906 litres of gasoline.

On the average, one uses 10 litres of gasoline a day in Nigeria (for a civil servant with a car). This means that a Saudi Arabian minimum wage worth of gasoline can take one 190 days or six months before it is exhausted.

On the Nigerian side, the minimum wage can fetch a citizen 187 litres of gasoline. Converting that into its days' worth at 10 litres a day, you get 19 days approximately!!

This right here is how you compare cost and not that flippant statement made by the president up there.

It is a terrible statement to make.

No, it is the truth.

Saudi produces far more oil than Nigeria does, and for a population of 34 million people.Nigeria produces one fifith of the oil Saudi produces, and for a population of 200 million people.

So, Saudi has enough cash to subsidse fuel even at a price lower than that of Nigeria if they wanted. Nigeria? We don't earn the type of income from oil that would gve us the revenue to fund subsidising oil, nd keep prices as low as 87 niara even

The problem is, truth s harsh for us Nigeriians. What Buhari is saying now has been said to us for decades. We refused to listen, and kept on subsidisng fuel and nding p creating a subsidy moonster thrugh whch the rich and poweful looot and loot.

The saad thiing is Buhari did not see this truth in 2012. He joined the bandwagon. And we sacrificed a golden oportunity to save at least 6 trillion naira that could have been used for better stuff on uselss subsidies.

Nigeria has to deregulate. For more investment, more refinereis, and more jobs, and a prosperous econonmy . We cannot afford cheap fuel

Simply because the GDP of Nigeria is comparable with that of Nigeria! It makes no sense for President Busari to speak in this manner! It discloses gross insensitivity on his part to the pains of the people he purports to lead in a manner that seeks their common and ultimate good!

IPOB and zoneB (ie PDP and APC, Biafranists and Nigerianists, Chirsitans and Muuslims, herdsmen and famers) meanwhile should focus on voting the right people in for once, instead of the same old dsame old that we have been managing since 1999

That simple economics, it has nothing to do with minimum wage or standard of living of Nigerians, but everything to do with cost of production/import.

Nigeria imports petrol due to bad governance of yesterday.

So common sense presupposes a higher cost in Nigeria than that of Saudi Arabia.

Again,I repeat,it has nothing to do with minimum wage or standard of living between Nigeria and Saudi.

Good governance does not include senseless subsidy on consumption of fuel.

Just like it make no sense for minimum wage in saudi to be higher than nigeria

Your analogy makes no sense for a sensible person.

The govt revenue per capita (population) is far higher in Saudi than in Nigeria.

Therefore minimum wage in Nigeria can never be as high as that of Saudi.

Simple economics, no emotions.

Those countries build their grid over a long period of time, they don't do ipob logic that praises looting and defends the shameless privitization of NEPA to the abhorrent reprehensible discos, whose agreement see Nigeria paying private companies bailout for not selling power at the price they choose.
You are really making sense with your posts, in a Federal system democracy, the docile youths believe the President is the bane of their problems, mumus practicing a system of Government they know nothing about, let them keep blaming the president, not the system.

If your Father is better qualified, what stopped him from contesting?, or are you not Nigerian born?, or was the presidency of The Federal Republic of Nigeria handed over to General Buhari on a platter of gold by yourself & pdp?
