A civil society organisation, Rescue Nigerian Economy Project has asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, former President Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari to apologise to Nigerian youths over their failure to reform the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) despite public outcry over their high-handedness.

In a statement made available to Daily Independent on Friday, its Executive Secretary, Dennis Alamu- George said it is in full support of the ongoing # EndSARS protests nationwide as it has " finally woken the federal government up from its years of slumber, indifference and lethargy".

According to the group, having being pushed to the wall through years of misgovernance, deprivation and harrassment by security forces, Nigerian youths have finally turned around and faced the government headlong.

The group also warned the government against using force to quell the protests, saying developments in Rivers, Lagos and FCT has shown that such moves will be vehemently resisted.

It said  the best approach is for President Buhari "to address the nation from his heart and take immediate steps to carry out the reforms he promised. 

" Former Presidents alive since the formation of SARS should offer Nigerian youths an unreserved apology to Nigerian youths. These include former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and former Heads of States, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar".

" If they had investigated the atrocities by the defunct SARS and carry out holistic reforms, there won't be need for any protest by Nigerian youths across the country today".

The group also blasted Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano for appointing James Nwafor, a former SARS operative accused of supervising the killings of innocent youths as his Senior Special Assistant on Security.

" That Obiano appointed Nwafor despite public knowledge of his atrocious acts shows how irresponsible and callous he is as Chief Security Officer of Anambra state".

"But for the public outcry by the youths who forced the governor to sack him, maybe he would have succeeded Obiano in office as the next Chief Security Officer of Anambra state".
