Using #700 million to repair 5 scanners n buying #600billion to buy new 300 scanners which one will make more sense?... Mathematicians and Economists help us.

I see this news as the battle between two contractors. The one that wants to repair and the one that wants to buy new ones.

The one that wants to repair has gone to the press...we are waiting for the one that wants to buy new to go to the press soon.

We know as e dey go for Nigeria.

In Nigeria, anything that spoil is spoiled, they don't think for repair that's generally our mentality.

Can you imagine the intending money to be wasted.

I remember vividly when my twinny wàs working in the barracks with Martin Luther teaching hospital, she said if those white oyibo travel back to thier country during those times if any machine spoil they will dump it and wait for the oyibo to come and rapair even it's 5 months.

Can you imagine? something they should repair and continue with.

Den full civil service.

Stingy, tight fisted, Olodo people with poverty mentality full there.

Updating9JA:

There is an indication that the five faulty scanners at the Apapa ports have been abandoned as the Federal Government rejects proposal to repair them at a cost of N753 million.

This development, Vanguard Maritime Report learnt, comes at the backdrop of the move by the government to acquire 300 new scanners at the cost of N688.6 billion as recently approved by the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

Consequently, the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents, NCMDLCA, have petitioned President Muhammudu Buhari over the decision.

The petition signed by NCMDLCA president, Lucky Amewiro, disclosed that three main level of improvement for the five scanning equipments were given to government, which are upgrading, updating and enhancement.

The petition said Smith Detection Consultants recommended updating which was the vital refurbishments necessary to return the system to “as delivered” state. Amewiro gave the breakdown of the estimated cost for the refurbishments as follows: the one in Apapa port (Euro- E76,152,00), mobile scanners at Idiroko Border (Euro- E200,052,00), fixed scanners at Seme Border (Euro- E326,518.00), mobile scanners in Warri port (Euro- E663,645.00) and mobile scanners at Apapa port (Euro- E407,123.00).

According to the petition, Smith Detection the manufacturers of the scanners, were mandated to re-evaluate the scanners to know the present state, look into the main cause of the collapse and if possible work out a Public Private Partnership, PPP, arrangement to maintain them.

The petition, therefore, called on the federal government not to waste scare resource in the acquisition of new scanners. They ask the government to conduct a fresh audit of the scanners with a view of determining their condition.

It stated: “The Council called for the re-evaluation of the scanners to know the present state and update the scanners as recommended by Smith Detection, the Manufacturers. “Look into the main cause the collapsed scanners and if possible work out a Public Private Partnership arrangement to maintain the scanners. ”Alternatively, the federal government should release part of the one per cent FOB for maintenance and repairs of the

Any business decision must include the cost of maintenance. In addition, the profit as against the cost. This issue remains why in the hell Nigeria needs such scanners? Nigeria is not even in stage of being tagged a developing country. Why would sound thinking fellow want Nigeria for anything? I cannot fathom how the manufacturers of certain good in Europe, Asia and America lure dumbass Africans to purchase craps the Africans do not even need. The stipulated costs of the scanners and repairs as stated in above post can easily give Nigerians good road networks which will help economy. Why should the idiotic government spend such huge amount of capital on scanners when Nigerian northern borders are as porous as hell without even ditch to stop vehicles?

Kindly think well, what are to be repaired are scanners in those locations. Abi are you also insinuating that the 300 scanners are for 300 ports in Nigeria. Even common sense would have told you that even in the article the plural marker (s) were used to indicate scannerS per the four locations mentioned.

Corruption no go kill us.
