Considering the fact that PDP is the ruling party at the top,
the belief is that, President Goodluck Jonathan, being the presidential flag bearer of the party, will win the presidential election in 2011.But is the above point enough to make him sweep the poll? Definitely not, because there are other factors that are essential for him to succeed in the said election.

Now, l hope that you have not forgotten so soon that political election is a game of number. With highest votes cast wins the election for you. Therefore, the population of voting Nigerians for or against him should be considered.

Let’s start with his party. Note already that a political interest divide has been created in the party by the primaries conducted out of which he emerged winner as the PDP presidential flag bearer for the 2011 election. As a result, his followers were happy, but what of supporters of
defeated contestants? You think they are happy for that?
They, sincerely, are not happy, not to talk of the contestants that is, Atiku and [Babagida].They may plan to divert their votes to presidential candidates of other parties in retaliation.

Again, don’t forget that the presidential candidates of ACN and ANPP that is Ribado and Shinkarau are all from the North that commands larger population of Nigeria. These other flag bearers will compete favorably with Goodluck Jonathan for Northern votes to the extent that the expected votes for him may not be realized, because North as a whole is self-centred religiously. They rally round a Moslem brother to help him.

Again, note that while the flagbearers of the other parties are Moslems, Goodluck Jonathan of PDP is a Christian in the midst of larger Moslems. If the North as a whole is self-centred religiously, what then do you think would happen in terms of vote cast?Certainly, they will cast their votes for their Moslem brothers.Remember, the vote cast in Nigeria isn’t by open ballot but by secret. So,he can’t know those who voted against him. And also, note that people coming out in mass for a rally doesn’t mean that it is the same way they will cast their votes for him.

Now, are you asking what about the votes of the Southern part of Nigeria? Let me ask you this, do you think the entire South would cast all their votes for him? I,for one doubt it, because for the South you can’t predict them, even if you smeared them with bribes, still you can’t.Remember, they are members of different political parties, which does not mean that they must vote for their various parties’ presidential candidates. They can decide otherwise, after all it’s their political power or right. Don’t be surprised if majority of PDP members in the South shift their votes to other parties, because of the fall out of the PDP presidential primaries

These and other factors should be seriously considered and resolved in favor of him before concluding that president Goodluck Jonathan of PDP party would sweep the presidential poll in 2011.
