Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, says terrorism in the country is far from being over anytime soon.

Mr Buratai stated this on Tuesday, three days after the gruesome massacre of rice farmers in Borno State at the weekend.

“There is general misunderstanding of what insurgency and terrorism entail,” the army chief said on his verified Facebook page Tuesday morning.

“There is likelihood of terrorism persisting in Nigeria for another 20 years. It only depends on the level of escalation and the appropriate responses by all stakeholders both civil and military authorities.

“Also by both local in international actors. Citizens responsibility is equally important and imperative. All must cooperate to contain the lingering insecurity. Let there be collective action and responsibility,” he added.

There have been calls for his sack alongside other security chiefs but President Muhammadu Buhari continues paying deaf ears to them.

Critics say the ousting of the security chiefs and their replacement will bring in fresh ideas on how to tackle worsening insecurity across the country.

It will only persist in the north forever, precisely the 12 sharia adopted states, the acts will be perpetuated by Muslim extremist and fuelled by power drunk northern elites.

A true acceptance of failure is usually followed by an immediate resignation. So that a more competent person can take over.
